Source: http://dev.ryzom.com/news/12Sometimes it helps to do more people networking than actual code in the open source world. After learning of our (= NeL developers) rejection from the Google Summer of Code 2010 I was advised by Leslie Hawthorn to seek out a mentor-ship under the umbrella of another project as prior Summer of Code experience helps immensely in following years. The WorldForge Project (http://www.worldforge.org) has generously offered us a student slot if one is available and we muster good student proposals.
For those who are unfamiliar with it Google Summer of Code is a program that offers student developers stipends (~USD$5000) to write code for various open source projects.
So please check out WorldForge (http://www.worldforge.org), their ideas list (http://wiki.worldforge.org/wiki/Summer_of_Code) and then Summer of Code page (http://socghop.appspot.com/document/sho ... forge/home) to see what they're all about. Their project aligns very well with us and we can share a lot of ideas.
After you've checked out WorldForge (http://www.worldforge.org) please check out our ideas list (http://dev.ryzom.com/projects/nel/wiki/GSoc2010Ideas) and come talk to us about becoming a student so that we can help you with your proposals (http://dev.ryzom.com/projects/nel/wiki/ ... gProposals) and your student application (http://dev.ryzom.com/projects/nel/wiki/ ... onTemplate) !
Edit: $5000 this year
