Completed Silan, Arrived on ML, Few Questions

Post by kurisui »

Well, I spent the last two days doing all the quests on Silan, and I have finally arrived in the mainland. I am a Tryker in Fairhaven. I have a few questions that could use answering, if anyone is willing.

1) What is the best way to make money as a newbie fresh off the island?

2) Can anyone suggest some goals that I can pursue that will keep me interested in the game long enough to see most of it?

3) Are there any guild aimed to helping newbies learn/adapt? (Hopefully in the Tryker Area)

4) Someone told me that leveling up foraging would be faster on the ML, but it seems painfully slow. I seem to be taking 20-30 minutes per level, at 25. Is this normal or is there a better way to train foraging?

5) Whats the benefit of using Light/Medium/Heavy armor?

6) Why the heck did that guild creation take half my money without any warning?! :"( (Rhetorical Question)

- Crafting and selling what you craft, also sell all the loot from the mobs that you kill.

2) Can anyone suggest some goals that I can pursue that will keep me interested in the game long enough to see most of it?

- See all the lands, and aquire all the non factioned TPs, then declare a faction and get the prime root TPs.
- Master 2 magic skills, and 1 melee skill.
- Master one land dig.

-
Plenty guilds that will help new players, I would look up Guardians of Jena from the karavan guilds.
- The Soul from Kami guilds.
- The Exodus Syndicate (http://www.exodusgs.com) (us) for kami independant guilds. (if you dont like politics).

There is, if you have the right friends.

5) Whats the benefit of using Light/Medium/Heavy armor?

Light has lower "penalties" but offer less protection, id go with heavy for melee, and LA for cast + crafting/harvesting.

6) Why the heck did that guild creation take half my money without any warning?! :"( (Rhetorical Question)
Cause it was evil :p
Hope that helped.

There are lots of guilds on Arispotle that will help new players, you dont even have to join our guild for us to help you kurisui, just send me a PM if you need anything.

There is a list of guilds here :

With a description of what their ideals and goals are.

Welcome to Ryzom :)

Worthy goals indeed, and I'm working toward these myself. But I'd caution against making only "grind to the finish" goals, unless that's what you enjoy, of course. I've found many other things to do along the way, as well. :)

As a supplement, I would suggest things like:
  • Join a guild and focus on helping the guild meet its goals.
  • Meet players from eight different time zones and spend time getting to know them.
  • Envision, organize and run a player-made event.
  • Learn good trekking routes (and the best seasons for them) between all of the capital cities.
  • Adopt-a-tribe. (Build up fame with a NPC tribe that currently doesn't like you.)
Be creative, and Atys will keep you engaged for a very long time, indeed.

The biggest thing for early harvesters to remember is always harvest from prospected nodes, not the convenient naturally-occurring ones. You get back all the focus you spent on digging when you dig from a node that you or another player created. This lets you harvest non-stop, without ever waiting for your Focus bar to refill.

Other than that, focus mostly on harvesting the highest quality materials you can and avoiding explosions, clouds, and early node deaths. Those affect your XP the most. Maximizing type (basic, fine, etc.) and amount are also important, but less so.

Don't know how often the treks occur now, but they used to be every other month, or so, more often if just a guild trek to get the new people the TPs for other lands. That was before the pvp stuff, though, so that might have changed. Remember weddings in scenic places. Ever been to the top of that spire by the Goo on Silan? There are places like that all over.

The Tryker lands currently have the only branches that you can climb on(when you look up and see giant branches in the sky, with little tiny trees on them? Yah, those.) Not many, but between those, the spires and mountain vista you see in Zorai lands, the cliffs and structures of the Matis, and the deserts and tunnels of the Fyros, there is lots for an adventurous homin to see. And the Prime Roots! Absolutely magical. (Just beware the fast-moving Kitin! Almost teleporting.)

And on many of these places, if your computer is good enough that it can handle sound, it is very therapeutic to just sit and watch the scenery, listening to the sound of Atys itself. If you happen to be digging while doing it :D ... not a great loss. When you are stuck in a city, like most of us, this is the closest you can get to nature, and it is well worth it. After all, not everybody can just go out into a wild, untouched forest and sit, or go out their back door and just look at the sun setting over a great canyon, or lay in the sand and watch the stars out in a desert, miles from nowhere.

And finally, paths. Finding paths through areas where the carnivores could kill you in one hit... running from a creature twice as tall as you, preying you make it to the water in time... This is one of the hobbies of some homin. Used to be that these Rangers, these path-finders could make plenty of dapper, just showing off what they had learned, had accomplished, and lead the unknowing and innocent through to another land.
