Creation of a new Volunteer Team !

Dear Atysians,

We are currently planning to create a new team of volunteers, similar to the CSR team but for translations instead of support. We're looking for those dedicated and motivated individuals that not only want to be a part of the community but also want to give back to the community, specifically as a translator.

This new team will have two main tasks to fulfill; primarily we are looking for people to provide localized translations for the game, the website and the chat tool, but as well as this they will be responsible for translating news posts and so on when required. As you can imagine, this will be a very important responsibility to undertake.

To begin with, we intend to translate Ryzom into Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Russian. Having said that, if you are a very motivated player who wants to translate the game into your mother tongue, then please don't hesitate to apply as well; who knows, we could be very interested in your special mother tongue as well ;)

What we're looking for are people who know how to communicate well in their specified language, are willing and able to put in the time required to get the job done, and who of course have experience with the game (so they know how to properly translate Ryzom words and phrases). In summary, applicants need to be able to *read* and understand English very well and able to *write* and understand their chosen language very well. Everyone also needs to be very motivated, because there is a lot to translate!

If you want to apply then please send an e-mail to L10n-app@ryzom.com. You need to include the following information in the email, in English please:
  1. Your account name.
  2. The name of the character you use the most in Ryzom.
  3. The language you wish to translate into.
  4. What level of competence you have with this language (ie native speaker, second language, or a degree of some sort in it).
  5. What level of competence you have with English (ie native speaker, second language, or a degree of some sort in it).
  6. What experience you have of translation tasks (if any; this is an advantage but not a requirement).
  7. How many hours per week you will be able to dedicate to this project.
  8. Why you think you would make a good addition to this team.
Thank you in advance, and we look forward to reading all of your applications,

The Ryzom Team.

PS: If you don't understand this post, please don't apply ;)

I would only like to ask a question: why should we even apply?

I am asking because we have got no information so far. And now we are asked to help developing/translating... what? We have asked what the plans are,... who the owner is...

If you are sincere I think we at least should be given more information before anyone signs up

edit: yes I understand this post very well, and I'm not wondering what you ask. But I have already noted that the storyline is gone. And I wonder what else will change

Since this seams like an attempt to reach other countries, I assume you guys are currently working on marketing strategies ?

Also, I would tend to agree with karmelit (not that I disagree on what you are asking or doing, I actualy approve it). Maybe the level of confidence amongst the community members is somewhat low due to the fact that we know nothing about the new owner and their plans. This sort of affects any voluntary willingness from the community. I would at least recommand a speperate thread to tell the community some basic infos. If no infos are available, then at least a small explanation of why and when would be a bear minimum.

I dont think that's entirely fair, For whatever reason it seems they prefer to keep the game secret, and thus far we've seen nothing but 'improvements' compared to the day they arrived.

If since day 1 we've seen NO changes yet, i can understand completely. but right now, how much right to gripe do we really have? They redid the website, brought a new download client back up, brought back our forums, brought the game up, the CSR team is still around doing their job, etc etc..

And where is the lore?

I'm not trying to be unfair though. I'm just concerned that everthing has been kept under wraps. And to ask us to help out... well I think we have a right to know before we make a choice

Besides, just because you volunteer, doesnt mean you HAVE to help.

If you get a translation that says "oops sorry we won't bring back any of the lore" etc then you could just back out.

Right now it's not here, but we don't know WHERE it is or if/when it's coming back. What if they want that translated into different languages too? Or maybe have it edited before it's brought back up?

Personally though, the lore doesnt have to be on the website for me to know and teach it to new homins. The lore was strongest in the players - much more than in any website.

localized translations for the game and chat tool... you must change codepage to utf-8 before that, if you want translate someone to russian language...

Ryzom already supports UTF-8 and CeB supports a lot of charsets (default is iso-8859-15 but you can set UTF-8 as well) :)
