The target bar is supposed to have a "difficulty" color indicator. But my target bar shows *everything* as green. Same for the "aggressiveness" indicator. When I use the "info" option on a creature it just tells me a name.
So I'm running around randomly hitting stuff, with no idea whether it's too hard or too easy. Besides that, all I find is 3 things:
1. Packs of herbivores. I don't feel like killing these, they are cute.
2. Packs of carnivores. I try to pull one single using taunt or a spell, but more often I get 2 or 3 and die. Often they respawn on top of me, too.
3. Kipees. Most of the time they don't help each other, not too hard to solo.
Problem is, everywhere I run I just find the same stuff. Some are "growling", some are "scowling", etc etc. This is starting to get repetitive, and it's made even less enjoyable by the lack of a functioning target bar.
Suggestions?

my suggestion is to work your way out. and i thought the yubo's and such where cute to but, your prolly gonna haveta suck it up like i had to and just kill them, if you want to make your leveling higher...also when you get those "kill 5 yubo's for 2k" missions its kinda hard not to pass up the money for such easy kills. i went yubo's, caty's, badoks (or whatever), rugus, working from suckling to weenling, then when i could take puny rugus and do well i moved to the kipee...but if you'r able to take the kipee's on easily then you are fighting the strongest mobs there, so i'd say start kipee farming.
Suggestions?
realize that you are on the newbie island. its not supposed to be known for its abundance of differnt mobs, but more for getting you used to playing before going to the big world. as for con'ning a mob i don't believe there is a way at this time other than the name (ie. suckling, weening, ect) im not sure if there is going to be a patch to do this or if their gonna do the whole "realistic" thinga and have you guess at what you can take.
Re: How can I tell what to hunt?
Actually I should have mentioned.... I am no longer on newbie island, and I have been wandering the Matis lands. I've been disappointed to find that the mainland seems to have mostly just bigger versions of the newbie island monsters. Bigger yubos, bigger predators, etc.layline wrote:realize that you are on the newbie island. its not supposed to be known for its abundance of differnt mobs, but more for getting you used to playing before going to the big world. as for con'ning a mob i don't believe there is a way at this time other than the name (ie. suckling, weening, ect) im not sure if there is going to be a patch to do this or if their gonna do the whole "realistic" thinga and have you guess at what you can take.
Re: How can I tell what to hunt?
ah i believe the further you go out, there are dif mobs, i think the reason they stuck with the same as newb just bigger idea was so that when you went to the mainland you would be able to find things to kill by using what you learned on the newb island...as upposed to trying to figure out what is stronger than what all over again...don't quote me though.rlaltman wrote:Actually I should have mentioned.... Re: How can I tell what to hunt?
There's a big variety of mobs you will discover as you start leveling/exploring.
Now the problem is how to consider a mob when you see it the first time.
As far as i know the 2 small boxes in the target window are broken for the moment ( hopefully it will be fixed soon).
However the color around the targeted mob itself works perfect & tells you its level range.
I've been using these charts for a while & it works great for me :

Hope this helps

Seriously... aside from looking at the color of the mob's health meter.. I'd say "trial and error". If it kicks your butt.. you probably shouldn't be fighting it yet. Less than that, and it all depends on how much of a challenge you want - and how many other aggro'ing mobs are lingering in the area that might decide to join in on the fun.
I've died several times myself already testing different mobs out, and, hey.. if nothing else, I learned to respect the mobs by keeping my distance until I thought I might be strong enough to try again.

I use the naming convention in many cases. For example, when you start dropping roaming mobs real easy for little xp go try a scampering. When those get easy, test out a sprightly.

Is that how the names work. I always wondered that. Very useful info!

Thanks vladww for posting the link to the naming/color guide. It is a good resource to know about.

Thanks, this is useful info. I've certainly tried the "die and go back" approach a number of times. Hopefully they will fix the target bar soon.eegreen wrote:Thanks vladww for posting the link to the naming/color guide. It is a good resource to know about.
