It looks like it will take me
seven hours to download ryzom I dont know if this is because of my DSL, or what? Im giving it another chance today and hope to be in game by 6pm tonight. Lets cross our fingers that I dont encounter any more issues like the other day. I really want to try the game. Ive been reading up on the lore, and sponging up an adequate amount of information to make my knees shake with anticipation.
And if you have been following my posts then it would be of no surprise that I have more questions. Tehee! Ill start with responding to questions already answered. You guys have been very helpful, thank you.

On 1 and 2: Things are still in limbo and no official words on a buyer yet.
3: Actually, there are still retail Cds out there with keys on them that will activate an account (gogamer.com is a good place to look)
Humm
if there is no word on what is the future of Ryzom I dont see me going to get an account yet. Ill test the game first and hope for the best. Although, from what Im reading and able to see in videos, the world looks awesome, and with all the skills to level I dont see me ever getting bored here.
My question: If I do go and find me a key, does this mean I will be able to go to the mainland? According to the last
news new comers can only make trial accounts until further noticed. Does this apply to key holders too?

lore here... Personally I suggest reading it for your self, as some Homins can be biased.
11: If you're Neutral you're gonna get a good work out. You won't be able to buy teleporter pacts for 250 zones or for Prime Roots. With good sneaking skills and some patience, you can get any where you need with out declaring a faction. You can play with anyone you like at any time. About the most limiting thing with factions is being in a guild. You can't be in a neutral guild if you are declared and you can't be in an opposite factions guild. You can be Neutral in a guild that is declared though.
I hope I was at least a little helpful, and I hope you enjoy Atys
Wow the lore of Ryzom is incredibly complex and I have hundreds of questions to ask. I think the best way for me to find an answer is to summarize what Ive read and how I understand it. This way whoever reads it can correct my ignorance and presumptions.
What is Ryzom? If the planet is called Atys I dont understand why the game is called Ryzom. There is no reference in the lore to Ryzom being a person. It simply is a mystery to what Ryzom is. There is a short hint that someone is looking for the
Ryzom. But who they are and what it is isnt clear.
Then there are the mysterious Karavans who are clearly not from Atys. They are the ones that started the myth of the dragon and claim Gina is the creator of homin life. But they dont seem so powerful without their technology and how good is their technology if they need
herds to move their ships? It looks to me like they are stranded on Atys, and are waiting for something or someone. And nobody other than them has ever seen Gina. Are homins not worthy, not even the most Karavan loyalist?
And then there are the Kamis, creatures integral to the planet, steeped in inexplicable magical. They seem to control the plant life of Atys and there is no homin that can flee their awareness. They are powerful if not more than the Karavan, they are immune to Karavan technology apparently, and completely feeble to the mysterious Goo. Im still unclear to what their purpose is other than to protect the plant life of Atys. It seems to me they cant survive with out it.
The Kitin are by far the most organized and powerful force on Atys. They are giant insect like creatures that roam all corners of Atys and apparently uncontrollable. The Kami and Karavan can clearly be overpowered by the mass numbers of their spawns, including homin, evidence of this is clear in the history of Atys civilization The Kitin War. To me they are the true power of Atys and the most dangerous of all foes.
In the
New Beginning after the homins form the Edict of the Four People and their civilizations settle in lands according to their predilection. Several guilds were formed that were not affiliated to the factions. One of which was the Guild of Elias, and one Im particularly interested in but the information is vague like all information on Atys.
One I do see is that the factions are there to separate the homins and as long as they hold influence over them the segregation and conflicts will continue.
katriell wrote:So the balancing factors tend to be the inefficiency of using magic while wearing melee-appropriate equipment, the slowness of switching between equipments, and the inability to use healing spells on oneself. Also, buff spells do not exist.
This works. Having many maxed skills does not make you a god...even with the relatively high health gained from a melee skill, while you're wearing light armour and casting spells (can't dodge while casting spells), if something gets close enough to hit you and you don't have a good healer you're still going to die in a matter of seconds. So, for example, you can't have the survivability advantages of melee skills at the same time as you have the high-damage-at-range advantage of elemental magic.
I love this so far, sound like grouping is essential to and although there no roles to fill everyone can level their skill of preference, in conclusion the balance is in the way players switch skills and gear at will. Love it, love it, love it
katriell wrote:9. The Arispotle RP community is very small indeed. All of the high-RP guilds are basically gone. The individual roleplayers remaining, that I know of (please correct me if I'm wrong), are these: Marelli, Xyrana, Kyerna, Zyratuan, Bandan, Nightblade/Teoh, and occasionally me (Maethro/Jelathnia).
However, the RP community on Leanon (the German server) is more healthy. There is at least one active RP guild extant, Argo Navis, in which there are already two English-only members among a total of at least seven active members. There's plenty of RP in English (which is explained as a Tryker/Silan/tribe dialect), and very understanding and welcoming people.
I was hoping to find a roleplaying group in the English server since RP guilds tend to be more organized (IMO) and can make game play more interesting. I dont speak a word of German but sounds like a fun idea to play in a world where the language is a barrier, from an RP point of view, certainly more challenging, but can be too difficult for someone like me who has yet to understand the game play.
Thank you both for your input and references.
