New and need help.
I downloaded the game but I'm unable to get passed the "Launching ryzom downloader" window. I open all the ports, and I know my firewall isn't blocking access. err. what can be the problem?

clicking the desktop icon "Play Ryzom" (or similar) and you getting "Ryzom Downloader" over and over again ?dlixus wrote:I downloaded the game but I'm unable to get passed the "Launching ryzom downloader" window. if you using Vista, then dont install Ryzom under "c:\program files" folder. instead install it to (for example) c:\users\you_user_name\Ryzom
now.. things to check (even when running vista and installed ryzom to c:\program files).
go to Ryzom install folder and see if there is client_ryzom_rd.exe. make shortut to desktop if there is and then run that shortcut.
if client_ryzom_rd.exe is not found, then check "unpack" folder there. if it has any .exe or .dll files, then move these to Ryzom install folder (overwrite existing files there) and also move check client_default.cfg file from "unpack" to Ryzom folder. make shortcut for client_ryzom_rd.exe to desktop and run it.
and finally you should consider changing C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file and add "91.121.7.176 dl1.gfsrv.net" to it to disable patch server's bad ip address by telling windows the right one.
Re: New and need help.
Thank you for responding! I couldn't fix it. The file you mentioned is not in the folders. I think the download was incomplete or corrupted. I'm also using Windows XP. I uninstalled ryzom and plan to download again. Should I try the alternative download and install Bittorrent? I didn't do that the first time because it said the information was outdated...
And since I got someone’s attention and I'm unable to post on the general forum, can you answer some more questions for me.
1) I understand the game is in having financial problems. What is the status at the moment, has there been any news about the new owners?
2) I assumed since the game is still available that there is a possible buyer?
3) Will I be able to subscribe to ryzom in the near future?
4) How different is the "Free Trial" compare to the actual game?
5) I read the level cap on the free trial island has been raised, can you tell me up to what level? I understand the highest level is 250 and that there are about 80 skills to master. Which skills are available in the free trial?
6) Are there recruiting guilds on the free trial island?
7) What is the general population right now in the main world (island)?
8) There are no special classes, does this mean I can level all skills, and how does this balance out when it comes to PvP and PvE?
9) Is there an RP community here?
10) Can you share a little about the storyline?
11) Kami and Karavan, and the other option Neutrality. I didn't find anything on who the contacts are for neutrals, and from what I read choosing a faction determines how one travels in the main world. Can you share a little about this, specifically on the subject of neutrality?
I know lots of questions. I have nothing else to do untill the game installs.

Re: New and need help.
Hello and Welcome
You could try the Bittorrent I think... Blaah also posted some download infos in this thread (Tech isn't my strong point)
On 1 and 2: Things are still in limbo and no official words on a buyer yet.
3: Actually, there are still retail Cds out there with keys on them that will activate an account (gogamer.com is a good place to look)
4 and 5: The free trial is much like the Mainland. Missions on the ML don't give exp and there are different regions, ML is much much larger. The only skills the the Island lack are Ranged fight and Ranged crafting. As far as I know, there is no level cap. But its really meant as a training ground and 50ish will be about as high as one can go with out going mad
6: You can be invited to a guild while on the Island. Riveit has a nice list up here. There is really no rush to being guilded, all Homins are very helpful, don't feel you'll miss out if your not in one.
7: *shrug* Numbers aren't my strong point either
8: Yes, you can level them all. There isn't anything I can think of that's not used. Some things are used by more than others are of course. But those that use the lesser ones don't suffer for it and are generally very good at it.
9: Very small at the moment, but yes...
10: You can find the lore here... Personally I suggest reading it for your self, as some Homins can be biased.
11: If you're Neutral you're gonna get a good work out. You won't be able to buy teleporter pacts for 250 zones or for Prime Roots. With good sneaking skills and some patience, you can get any where you need with out declaring a faction. You can play with anyone you like at any time. About the most limiting thing with factions is being in a guild. You can't be in a neutral guild if you are declared and you can't be in an opposite factions guild. You can be Neutral in a guild that is declared though.
I hope I was at least a little helpful, and I hope you enjoy Atys

8. Some equipment has a malus which increases actions' stats usage. Light armour, jewelry, and magic amplifiers have no malus; heavy armour and two-handed melee weapons have the highest malus; medium armour and one-handed melee weapons have less; I'm not sure about ranged weapons. Therefore different types of equipment are suitable to different activities.
For example, light armour, or at most medium armour, is preferable while using magic skills because of the already-high sap and health costs of powerful spells and the fact that the heavier the armour, the longer the casting time and the shorter the range.
Heavy armour or medium armour is preferable while using two-handed melee skills. I'm not familiar with the armour preferences prevalent among one-handed melee users.
Light armour and nothing else for harvesting and crafting. One often needs all the focus they can get, to get the most out of each material source, so having a malus hampering you while you're harvesting is very undesirable.
There is a delay in switching equipment, which is longer the more equipment you switch at a time.
You can't use healing spells on yourself. Only the Self Heal Life actions available to all skills, the smallest of which has a 120 second cooldown time. Self Heal Stamina and Self Heal Sap are gained via melee and magic skills, respectively, and have the same cooldown. There is also a Self Heal Focus for harvesting and crafting skills, but there is no focus-healing spell.
So the balancing factors tend to be the inefficiency of using magic while wearing melee-appropriate equipment, the slowness of switching between equipments, and the inability to use healing spells on oneself. Also, buff spells do not exist.
This works. Having many maxed skills does not make you a god...even with the relatively high health gained from a melee skill, while you're wearing light armour and casting spells (can't dodge while casting spells), if something gets close enough to hit you and you don't have a good healer you're still going to die in a matter of seconds. So, for example, you can't have the survivability advantages of melee skills at the same time as you have the high-damage-at-range advantage of elemental magic.
----------------------
9. The Arispotle RP community is very small indeed. All of the high-RP guilds are basically gone. The individual roleplayers remaining, that I know of (please correct me if I'm wrong), are these: Marelli, Xyrana, Kyerna, Zyratuan, Bandan, Nightblade/Teoh, and occasionally me (Maethro/Jelathnia).
However, the RP community on Leanon (the German server) is more healthy. There is at least one active RP guild extant, Argo Navis, in which there are already two English-only members among a total of at least seven active members. There's plenty of RP in English (which is explained as a Tryker/Silan/tribe dialect), and very understanding and welcoming people.

Re: New and need help.
It looks like it will take me seven hours to download ryzom I dont know if this is because of my DSL, or what? Im giving it another chance today and hope to be in game by 6pm tonight. Lets cross our fingers that I dont encounter any more issues like the other day. I really want to try the game. Ive been reading up on the lore, and sponging up an adequate amount of information to make my knees shake with anticipation.
And if you have been following my posts then it would be of no surprise that I have more questions. Tehee! Ill start with responding to questions already answered. You guys have been very helpful, thank you.
My question: If I do go and find me a key, does this mean I will be able to go to the mainland? According to the last news new comers can only make trial accounts until further noticed. Does this apply to key holders too?
What is Ryzom? If the planet is called Atys I dont understand why the game is called Ryzom. There is no reference in the lore to Ryzom being a person. It simply is a mystery to what Ryzom is. There is a short hint that someone is looking for the Ryzom. But who they are and what it is isnt clear.
Then there are the mysterious Karavans who are clearly not from Atys. They are the ones that started the myth of the dragon and claim Gina is the creator of homin life. But they dont seem so powerful without their technology and how good is their technology if they need herds to move their ships? It looks to me like they are stranded on Atys, and are waiting for something or someone. And nobody other than them has ever seen Gina. Are homins not worthy, not even the most Karavan loyalist?
And then there are the Kamis, creatures integral to the planet, steeped in inexplicable magical. They seem to control the plant life of Atys and there is no homin that can flee their awareness. They are powerful if not more than the Karavan, they are immune to Karavan technology apparently, and completely feeble to the mysterious Goo. Im still unclear to what their purpose is other than to protect the plant life of Atys. It seems to me they cant survive with out it.
The Kitin are by far the most organized and powerful force on Atys. They are giant insect like creatures that roam all corners of Atys and apparently uncontrollable. The Kami and Karavan can clearly be overpowered by the mass numbers of their spawns, including homin, evidence of this is clear in the history of Atys civilization The Kitin War. To me they are the true power of Atys and the most dangerous of all foes.
In the New Beginning after the homins form the Edict of the Four People and their civilizations settle in lands according to their predilection. Several guilds were formed that were not affiliated to the factions. One of which was the Guild of Elias, and one Im particularly interested in but the information is vague like all information on Atys.
One I do see is that the factions are there to separate the homins and as long as they hold influence over them the segregation and conflicts will continue.
Thank you both for your input and references.

Humm if there is no word on what is the future of Ryzom I dont see me going to get an account yet. Ill test the game first and hope for the best. Although, from what Im reading and able to see in videos, the world looks awesome, and with all the skills to level I dont see me ever getting bored here.h0lycha0 wrote:Hello and Welcome

Wow the lore of Ryzom is incredibly complex and I have hundreds of questions to ask. I think the best way for me to find an answer is to summarize what Ive read and how I understand it. This way whoever reads it can correct my ignorance and presumptions.h0lycha0 wrote:10: You can find the lore here... Personally I suggest reading it for your self, as some Homins can be biased.

I love this so far, sound like grouping is essential to and although there no roles to fill everyone can level their skill of preference, in conclusion the balance is in the way players switch skills and gear at will. I was hoping to find a roleplaying group in the English server since RP guilds tend to be more organized (IMO) and can make game play more interesting. I dont speak a word of German but sounds like a fun idea to play in a world where the language is a barrier, from an RP point of view, certainly more challenging, but can be too difficult for someone like me who has yet to understand the game play.katriell wrote:9. Yes.dlixus wrote:My question: If I do go and find me a key, does this mean I will be able to go to the mainland?

Note that most of the lore depicts the homin perspective on history and therefore may not be entirely accurate itself.
Correct, that is all that is known. But there is a word similar to Ryzom: rhizome.dlixus wrote:What is Ryzom? If the planet is called Atys I don’t understand why the game is called Ryzom. Other than that, almost all of your understanding is correct.
Since we've never seen Karavan ships moving in-game, it is unknown whether that concept art of them being pulled by animals remains true.
By the way, in a live storyline event that occurred a long while ago, it was revealed that Jena is on her way to Atys.
All correct.dlixus wrote:And then there are the Kamis, creatures integral to the planet, steeped in inexplicable magical. All correct, though the more fanatical of Karavaneers and Kamists would argue that the opposite faction is more dangerous than the Kitin.dlixus wrote:The Kitin are by far the most organized and powerful force on Atys. Here's a summary of Elias Tryton, and by extension the Guild of Elias, by a former player. Take it with a grain of salt, of course:In the “New Beginning” after the homins form the Edict of the Four People and their civilizations settle in lands according to their predilection. Several guilds were formed that were not affiliated to the factions. And here's more+official info, from Atys Chronicles:(14:34:48) Jyudas (grimjim): OK, let's see...
(14:35:06) Jyudas (grimjim): Elias Tryton is assumed to be a Tryker of some sort, though he'd be an old and peculiarly powerful one.
(14:35:20) Jyudas (grimjim): He occupies a position between the two factions, but isn't exactly neutral as such.
(14:35:59) Jyudas (grimjim): Neither side trusts him, but he was key during the Great Swarming, providing the rainbow bridges that took most of the homin to safety while the Kami and Karavan held off the swarms - with limited success.
(14:36:32) Jyudas (grimjim): The Tryker hold a heretical belief that he is Jena's husband, and thus an actual divinity of some sort, like Jena or Ma Duk but unlike those entities he does take a more direct hand in events.
(14:36:57) Jyudas (grimjim): While he hasn't been seen his guild - a secretive group of spies and agents - has been seen a great deal of.
(14:37:29) Jyudas (grimjim): Tryton is currently somewhere down in the deep roots, apparently looking for 'something' to help counter the faction war, but nobody knows what and nothing has been heard for ages.
(14:37:47) Jyudas (grimjim): This, and his ineffective actions during the temple building have damaged the credibility of the Trytonists.
(14:38:02) Jyudas (grimjim): I think that about covers it.

The Guild of Elias sounds interesting. Are they an NPC guild or are players able to join this guild secretly? I take it Neutrals are seen as outsiders and consider Trytonist. Could it be that Tryton is the one searching for the Ryzom? If in fact the Ryzom (rhizome) is some kind of root, then he would be looking for the seed, the heart of Atys. Are you telling me that the Ryzom is the heart of Atys? By this picture, which by the way is incredible, the core of Atys is a massive black rock covered in stems.
I could go on forever if you let me. The story of Ryzom is a great mystery and Im obviously enthralled by it. The more I read the more I want to know.
