Yesterday I was playing without any problems. WHen suddenly I crashed upong walking up to a bunch of Psy in the northern region of Matis.
I didn't play until 30 min ago where it is now crashing on the 2nd loading bar after the char selection screen. It crashes with a runtime error.
I closed down my AVG Free anti-virus (which I usualy didn't) and recheck all my ports setings.
Here is what I tried (saved my save folder before):
- emptied my unpack folder and started the background downloader : crashes at same place
- put back my Ryzom backup folder of last week : crashes at same place
- changed my setings from graphics=Auto to Direct3D, 1024x768 and set all to LOW : crashes at same place
- changed my setings graphics=OpenGl, 1024x768 and set all to LOW : recommanded me to switch to Direct3D (which I did) but crashes at same place
- now get this, on the char selection screen, I chose a char I had created but never played with it and guess what, I was able to play for at least 15 min. I had went back to char selection screen after 15 min thinking it was fixed. So I picked my regular char to play but it crashed again at the same place.
So with this, I think the problem is related to my regular char. I had a similar incident about 3 weeks ago where everytimes I would appear in game, I would crash everytimes I was at one specific place. It seamed as if I was stuck at that spot. I do not remember how I fixed. But the fact remains that the problem is with my regular char. I am able to play with a brand new character but not my regular one.
Any clues ?

I tried several things below and it kept crashing at the same place for that regular character :
- deleted string file in the save folder
- deleted string file and all files with regular character name
- deleted the whole save file
- deleted the whole save file and emptied the unpack folder
but then, I went back to the log.log file. Something was bothering me. Everytimes it crashed, I had the same record at the bottom of the log :

So I thouht that it looked like it had realy a problem reading that /data/matis_pacs.bnp file (all bnp are either in the /unpack or /data folder).
So I went into the /data file and deleted all the matis*.bnp files to force the game to re-download them.
Started the game and in the character selection screen it was showing a patch progress. When it was finished I clicked PLAY and VOILA !!! I was back in the game with my regular character.
Those log files have different parsing levels : info, warning, debug, ... Are these logs looked at or requested for investigation purposes ? Looks to me they are not realy used at all for support issues.
Now I may very well have taken a chance, as this error message could have been normal. I have seen other error messages refering to problems reading files but those files were from the /unpack folder which I had emptied. The software simply recreated/redownloaded them since he could not find them. Again, normal situation.

This is a bit contradictory, your log file did in fact solve the problem for you. I assume you're suggesting that each error message sent to/thru the "send" mechanism in some error reports are not being used ? Your problem was specific to you, and there probably should be a "check for solutions to this error" function of some sorts by now... But your example shows that often the log file can help you troubleshoot problems. I assume over time the logs sent in have helped the dev's change/tweak problem areas significantly.
