Not positive if this is the right place for this so if it's not please move it to the appropriate place.
Suggestion:
Make battles such as OP battles worth fame. If you fight for your faction you gain fame points. If you fight against your Faction you loose faction fame points. I'll leave percentages or actual point value up to discussion and the developers.
Substantiation:
It is basically imposable to gain things such as outposts without the help of others in game, You chose a faction. They most likely will be your first stop to ask for assistance in gaining / defending them. The developers have no intension on adding enough outposts for every guild to poses one and therefore have made them controlled by guild but owned by faction. There are other things in the works for Ryzom that also support the idea that OP are somewhat factional. Lets just take that step and finish what in my opinion has already been set in motion. The ultimate teamwork, OP battles. Most of us have already chosen sides. Lets have consequences for going against our chosen side, and rewards for helping it.

Re: Fame and Battles
OPs are not FvF, they are AvA(well technically GvG). They shouldn't be FvF imo. if they went FvF I probably woudn't fight at them at all anymore.

I agree with red on that one.
Want to change OP battles, then change OPs:
- Big OP could be left FvF
- Small OP, restrict them to GvG: a player not in attacking or defending guild can not participate.... There is a risk of an uberguild to take them all but at least would be as intended
And then if an uberguild take them all, other guilds could regroup in one more powerful guild and take over

Re: Fame and Battles
am not happy with op's per se (I'm bored of the battles) but I think most suggestions people come up with are pretty crap.
GvG - not enough single guilds capable of taking and op, would lead to many of the smaller more characterful guilds merging to make superguilds.
FvF - restricts choice nuff said
level limited - most people have at least 1 master therefore would be excluded.
Level downgraded - wouldnt mean much really
my personal opinion which many would disagree with -
shorten op battles to 1 round
make it so attacker sets a time and defender can adjust the time by the amount of TH left (24hrs max - 4hrs min)
op's are then 1 battle and the lower the TH the higher *real* risk of losing it.

Re: Fame and Battles
While this issue is related to OPs I think it is really an issue of polotics and bad blood. From what I've seen the only times GvG OP battles are used or the idea of GvG OP battles are defended is to express that bad blood. The majority of the attackers and defenders at any OP battle I have ever been to are FvF and have nothing to do with GvG. Every other part of the game is heavily FvF. Resource distribution, OP Placement and TPs all encourage FvF and quite honestly a guild by itself without faction support can't hope to take or defend an OP.
I agree that treating OPs as resources and Guilds that own OPs as tribes and applying at least Fame Penalties would be a big step to taking the polotics out of the picture and keep things balanced through game mechanics. Fame Increase due to OP Battles could probably be too easily exploited. Fame Penalties would simply keep the faction play balanced.
If a 20% fame penalty were given to players participating in an OP Battle against their own faction, more thought would be given to abusing what are otherwise FvF OP Battles. This doesn't mean it can't be done, it just means that even the players with 100 faction fame would have a cost to their actions by rebuilding their fame or they lose PR TPs within 3 or 4 battles.
Again, with the number of players and guilds in the game, everything about the game points to OP Battles being FvF and the only people I see defending it's status as GvG are the few people who want to exploit this as revenge of bad blood. If a player or guild wants to punish another guild maybe some other game features should be put in place. All that's happening now is a lot of people who had nothing to do with "history" are paying the price. New people coming into the game don't see how wronged a guild was. They just see dissention in the faction and despite what the reason may be or point being made, this does not lead to love or enjoyable game play.
Just my 2 cents..

Re: Fame and Battles
I have heard that OP's are not FvF, with the set up for faction controlled regions, how can you say that? Granted is has yet to be fully implemented, the reminder of the intent is plain to see each time you enter a new region.

Plus the ongoing talk of Spires.... Granted, I do not fully understand the consequences of them, but from what I do understand, this would not only limit ones ability to defend / attack a OP due to access, but would not allow re-spawn in that region also if it is controlled by the opposing faction. Granted this may never fully come to be as it appears it has been quite some time since it was "announced". I still think it shows the true intent of the developers, at least those of the time.this region is neutral

regions are not and can not be controlled by factions. there isn't and never will be that possibility in ryzom.1willie1 wrote:I have heard that OP's are not FvF, with the set up for faction controlled regions, how can you say that? the "this region is neutral" is from spire patch. everything else was a go, but the spires itself (funny i know).
btw, i do agree that op battles are somewhat fvf, but they cant officially make them fvf battles because then Kara guild can not attack outpost occupied by kara guild (for peaceful takeover of course

Re: Fame and Battles
Sorry but "Horde v Alliance" I thought we thought about things abit more than that, OPs are not FvF.
If they were, like Red, I wouldnt bother I like a few more colours than black and white.
You mention Regions, well some put civ before faction too.
Sorry for the slight off topic, OPs may not be working as all may like but your suggestion would make them even more unpalletable for many.

Re: Fame and Battles
I agree with Red and Crythos. The game is ultimately about choices and choices are never as Crythos says "black or white". Guilds can be alligned to either faction without agreeing with everyone else from the faction, as has been seen in the past and probably will be seen in the future too.
Some guilds also only fight for allies rather than Faction and some people only for their homeland. Why restrict peoples ability to choose. If you make them fight alongside people they don't want to fight with they just won't turn up and both sides lose out on help.
Just my opinion.
