Hello, just a quick question from a newbie.
This could be a wrong impression, but I've noticed that there seems not to be any way to split a pull.
Just to be clear, let me do an example. In RoS there are many bandit camps. Every camp has 3 or 4 bandits (or even more).
I've tried to pull a single bandit (with taunt for example or with an offensive spell) but it seems there's no way to do it.
I've waited till a bandit walked a little away from other bandits and then I've pulled him with taunt. I've walked a bit far from the camp and the started to fight.
At first only the pulled one come but, as soon as I hit him, all his buddy comes or, should I say they warped beacause they come at a very very high speed.
It's seems to me that:
a) the aggro range of the bandit is very very big or
b) they do not have aggro range and simple they all will come no matter how you pull them.
Another question is related to taunt.
When you're fighting with 3 or 4 mobs (who said bandits?) it's very very hard to taunt all of them. I'm too busy trying to survive to be able to click on every mobs, wait for the taunt to refresh and then taunt.
In the meanwhile some of the bandits will surely go kicking my healer who barely can survive to 2 hits.
So, is there an efficent way of keeping aggro on you when you pull multiple mob?
Finally....what's up with the damage? It seems to me that you and the mobs hit for way too much damage.
Fights often resolves in a matters of 4 o 5 seconds and it goes like you will overcome you enemy or the enemy will overcome you.
There's little space for tactics because the fight will end too fast.
Is this something that will change when you grow or is this the way ryzom goes ?

Firstly, Bandits are supposedly intelligent, and will help their fellows. thus you cant split a bandit pull.
Now the way for a tank to hold multiple aggro, is using circular attack. You probably dont have it yet, but it is very effective when used correctly. the healer needs to be well back, and the the tank needs to be hitting all of the aggros, but it does work.
For your third point, damage and hp on Silan are not well balanced (IMHO). makes it almost futile to try to level healing on Silan. If you have Heavy Armour, it will soak up a lot of damage - and provide you extra HP, so you can tank effectively. At higher levelsthe combat system works pretty well.

I'll give an attempt at answering your questions.
Bandits have a very high social range, meaning if they'll see you attacking one of their friends, they'll come at you. It is possible to pull a bandit away from the camp and fight it alone (at least on mainland, not sure about Silan), but you have to taunt it and then lead it about 150 meters away from the other bandits before doing any attacks on it.
Usually you can't keep more than 2 mobs taunted at once if there's other players around for them to attack. If you need to hold more of them, you have to use circular attack to hit all of them, and your healer should be at maximum range (50 meter) away from you while healing you. That way you can usually hold 3-4 mobs away from your healer.
I don't recall how it is on Silan, but combat is generally fast in Ryzom. At the highest levels, players have at most about 6000 health, and mobs hit for 1000 to 2000 damage. A fight between an elementalist and a mob will indeed be over in seconds. A fight between a heavy armored meleer and a mob last maybe half a minute. It's not until you throw healers into the mix that fights can last very long. There's room for tactics, you just have to anticipate or react very quickly.

It's one of the best Ryzom features... when you will growig up you will learn how to taunt whole heards of mobs while being a tank and maybe one day you wil learn how to pull single "social" mobs or bandits
As a tip let me tell you about "death pull" which you might use to pull an aggro boss like ie Vorkoo (lev 270 verrry bad mofo from deep Atys
)...

As to your first question ill leave it to some more experienced homins since i spend most of my time digging and crafting, as to the second and last question.
Once you gain more levels your health will increase (if you buy health stanzas of course
) also wearing HA with Bonus HP beefs up your health big time. And critters health will go up as they rise in lvls as well. the damage you dishout as a tank on the other hand, doesnt go up as high or fast. qand the battles do get longer unles you have couple of nukers with you.
And regarding taunting groups of mobs away from your healer...well that only comes with experience, but trust me it is possible, but again you have to gain a few lvls so that you dont have to worry about staying alive too much

Adding to the good points mentioned already...
It also pays to keep the tank a good distance from the healer to prevent area aggro. Casting near a mob will almost always take aggro, distance will decrease this and allow the tank to taunt again if need be, before the mob hits the healer.
The healer should also be prepared to use DA to fear/stun a mob that may have his scent. While the mobs flees in terror or is froze in place (keep in mind once the lock is lost by performing an action, the mob will resume it's attack... in this case obviously fear is preferred) you have a moment to heal the tank and get healed by an enchant or reload sap on an enchanted weapon

On Silan it is possible to pull Reitzak without drawing the others. Arken is harder. Need to be 250M from others before attacking him. You may have your healers closer then 50M if they are disciplined enough not to cast until you have engaged all of the aggro.Circular Attack isn't available on Silan sadly-Kilgoretrout

Weapon also matters....using circular attack, the circle is as big as the "recah" of ya weapon. If I am in a plod team for example, come cloning time, I prefer my tank to be using a pike because of its long reach.
And I'll echo the distance thing. I'll not mention the name of a certain healer tho who would not heal her tank in plod teams if they "pulled" to less than 35m of where she and other mages were standing. Loved having her in my team as that lesson need only be taught once.
