couple questions....

Post by cgilroy21 »

coming from UO, AC, WOW, etall is there a such thing as char "templates" here? or would any of the 4 races be good magic users? i played (and bought) ryzom right from the start but with bugs and such couldnt handle it, so i decided to give it another go since alot of people say its awesome now.

i dont seem to see the 3 magic packs anymore it looks like theres just 1 "specialization" now?

there are no magic packs that I know of, and all the races are equaly good at all skills.

and there are no 'templates' per se, rather, you can train up in any direction at any time, regardless.
Characters in Ryzom:

Mayadanava
Vishvakarma

well... obviously you have your "starting" packs... magic, fighter, crafter, forager... back in the day there was three different packs you could choose.. from what it looks like now, theres only 1? i.e. back in the day you could be, magic, magic, fighter, or magic, magic, forager... seems like now you can only be one of the other?

no matter what you choose it just gives you a skill you dont have to buy from the trainer. once you start Lvling you can learn every thing

The system with the 3 starter packs was changed because it was just unbalanced and gave the players who picked the 'right' starter packs an advantage over those who picked the 'wrong' ones.

If you didn't pick a magic start pack, you would start without any magic skills at all, and you had to spent 35 skill points at the trainer before you could do any magic. If you didn't pick a craft start pack, you had to spent 40 skill points before you could do any crafting. That's a lot for a new player. Those who picked 3 fight packs couldn't try magic or crafting until they'd gained enough fighting skill points.

It's not that you can only be one now, you're always all 4 now. Every new player starts with basic fight, magic, forage and craft skills, so they can use every skill right from the start. And you get to pick one skill to be a little more advanced in, just so you still have something to choose. Think of it as already having a start pack in all 4 skills, and only being able to choose the 5th one :)
