The woes of the new patching system

Post by nkrontir »

Earlier today, I got a PWOD (please wait of death) for quite a while, which lead to FS lost, therefore I restarted the application. Unfortunately, I never returned to the game but instead the automatic patcher was stuck in a loop, starting and shutting itself down. After killing the background patcher's process, I tried to start the game again but to no avail.

I was advised through klients to do the BackgroundDownloader = 0; workaround, which unfortunately didn't work either. I also tried to do ipconfig /dnsflush which also didn't help at all.

After that, I was advised to uninstall, re-download the game (I used the link at http://dl2.gfsrv.net/ryzom-installer_060928.exe) and re-install. Now the game seems to get stuck doing the first file check and after five minutes it crashes, giving a windows memory allocation error 'The instruction at "0x0096cc99" referenced memory at "0xfffffff0". The memory could not be read.'

Any thoughts on this?

Why oh why did I write dnsflush? No, there is no such command I'm aware, don't worry... I typed ipconfig /flushdns at the command prompt.
Quite possibly I'm not making much sense here because I haven't slept all night long, trying to fix my client desperately!

The patcher got stuck for me too. I tried to reinstall the client from the origional download file, but it's apparently too old and isnt going to the correct address. I thereafter tried to get support through the website, only to be directed to a notice that the website is down for maintenance, I then tried to download the new client installer, only to get the same notice of website maintenance. Oh did I mention that when i try klients i get spammed with a message about only registered users being able to log on atm? I guess misery loves company. Any thoughts out there?

ok I put in new address and maybe got something going now. wish me luck.

Your klients problem is a common one you need to register username and password on first login.
open the Plugs.ini file and under the section mtpchat look for:

MtpChat Login=
MtpChat Password=

Ensure that both of these fields are empty, save and close the file.
run Klients and type firstly your username and then your password and you should be able then to connect.
