Brand new player - hoping to get question answered

Post by shimmer333 »

Hi

I just started this game today. I am an MMO veteran and have played many of them and am looking for something new. So far my Ryzom experience has not been so smooth. Here is my question....

You start the game with a quest to talk to an NPC named Chaing I believe. I have tried everything I can think of to talk to him. Right click, left click, double clicks of both, holding down the right button to get the menu, left button and using the "talk" button under actions. No matter what I do, he just pops up a list of quests and does not "update" the quest I have to talk to him.

I went to the next NPC in the guide I found and got the first quest from them. The first quest objective is to talk to them lol. Once again try everything and cant get the quest update, just the same list of "missions" pop up.

There were several people online in the area talking over the area chat and I asked politely there about 3 times, then sent tells to everyone that was talking and guess what, not one answer (even to say "I dont know").

I am hoping I am just having some bad luck because so far the guidance starting the game is non existent and the other players thus far have been far less then polite or helpful.

I will hope that for some reason they just missed all the questions and perhaps I am just an idiot and am missing something simple (heh wouldnt be the first time).

So I have now looked over about 3 different guides and none of them say how to "talk" or get the quest to update so I am hoping some kind soul out there will take pity on my frustration and clue me in on what I am doing wrong :)

Thank you :)

don't worryt about the mission log entry, it'll go away eventually, and won't hurt you.

If I remember correctly, he should begin a recitation of some lore when you left click on him. He has a number of dialogue boxes that follow and he then suggests that you start some missions. He has missions. There are also other mission givers nearby with include tutorials for fighting, magic, foraging and crafting. There are also Kami and Karavan missions. If you accidently closed Chiang's dialogue box, I'm not sure if you can restart it. However, you aren't missing much except a few paragraphs of background lore I think. Just start the missions in the branches that interest you most.

About the talk to "so-and-so" part of the mission, it may be completed. Click on the missions button and look in the mission log to see which steps are completed and which you need to do next.
Good luck! :)

Yes, the in-scene spiel that the mission-givers have can never be repeated by the same character :( . This can be a real pain, especially since it isn't in any chat channel either, so you can't scroll back to find it.

Usually, when you select someone like Chiang the Strong, if you have a mission step involving that NPC then a mouse tooltip will appear, saying something like "Give 1 item" or "Talk to Chiang", so you should left-click on the NPC again to do what the tooltip says.

Sorry to hear that you found other players to be unhelpful so far. Note that chat in the Around channel only has a range of about 20m. There is a Universe chat channel for Q&A that you could try as well as your Region channel, broadcasting across the entire server. You can also try typing "/who gm" into the chat line to get a list of any online CSRs to appear in the System Info window, and then "/tell 'CSR name'" to pester one of them :) .

Finally, which server is your character on? I keep hearing that Cho is pretty sparsely populated, Arispotle has many more people.

Welcome,

Don't worry about the first Chiang quest. I completely messed that one up and it did not affect my character (or so I think).

If you press 'J' your mission window will be displayed with a list of up to 15 missions in it. If you are getting a message about having the maximum amount of quests, just clear out some of your finished quests, this will give you room for more.

If you need help definitely talk to the CSR's, or ask in the region chat.

Have fun.

I had the same experience with a friend of mine just a few days ago.
he was clicking so fast through the dialogue that I couldn´t caution him to read them fast enough ;)
And then he complained that the mission was locked and he could not open another one.
Simply go to one of the Tutors and left click on them to start the follow up missions then.
The Tutors are guys and girls of the four races standing on small rises surrounding the central hill in a rough circle.
For example the Zoraï Tutor is the tall blue Guy right under a violet tent, quoting things about magic and sap and the Homins realtion to them.
Click on him to learn more about magic.
If you want to learn how to fight, then go right to the wooden barracks, with the tough looking, dark skinned guys and girls in front. The Fyros will teach you how to do battle.

The green, rather elaborate tents, mark the Matis Craft-Tutor and the Blue-White Tepee like tents show you where the trykers are, small, nice fellows wich show you how to forage.

Have Fun.
