Official Rifle Review

Post by aether4u »

Are there ANY rifles out there, normal or bow, that are actually worth picking-up crafterwise? I'm a Tryker, but can I get other race's plans? I would if there was one universally approved by the masses.

If not, guess I'll stick to pistols... but I really like the idea of rifles.

Zorai staff mounted tazer rifles are pretty cool looking.

Yes, walk up to a trainer for that race, and spend 50? skill credits on <insert race> crafting start type of thing.
but I really like the idea of rifles.
zorai have the coolest rifles since we simply stole the design for tazers and jaffa staff weapons then mixed them together... plus they shoot lightning :)

Yahbut how's the damage and cost to make ammo? From all I hear, no rifles are worth it economically. Ppl are saying to just use melee, but I do like rifles. Aside from their lightning'ness, do they work well?

Correct, ranged weapons in general suck for anything beyond looking cool... zorai rifles look the coolest.... thus they are the best :)

( mats for 12 or 24 shots depending on which type of weapon, more for the launcher type weapons... Ranged weapons have lower damage than melee and lower ranged than casters... do the math ;)

With proper mats you can get a pistol to do roughly the same range as a rifle (which has IIRC about a 5 meter base advantage). Add that to the fact the pistol tree shoots off as 1 handed combat where the rifle is in the same category as the launcher/autolauncher and there's really no reason to pick it up unless you're late in the game and doing skill point hunting.

I find I have gotten to the point with pistol where solo I will do about a clip of 12 into a tough beastie, kill the beastie off with 3 or 4 increase damage/acc/piercing blows of a good weapon, and get the 2500 ranged/500 melee split base on amount of blows and not damage, since my pistol does maybe 70 or so with good (q40ish) ammo. I like the skill points, but the tree itself is really not worth anything (at least until autolauncher comes up), and had I not run balanced melee/ranged I'd be having a very tough time advancing.
