Just bought brand new game, installed, could not connect 'Error 1' message, did as per instructions on this forum and downloaded and installed the 'ryzom-installer_060928.exe' NOW I can't even start the game! Message box pops up with 'ne_drv_opengl_win is a too old version. Ask for more recent file'.

Who do I ask? What do I do next? What's going on? Can anyone offer me some help?

Thanx

check the shortcut you clicking (in desktop probably) that it points to client_ryzom_rd.exe.
you may also try to run ryzom_configuration_rd.exe in Ryzom dir and from there "Play Ryzom" (or similar) button.
if it does not help, you may want to check updated drivers/directx for you computer maybe problem is there.

Thanx 4 the reply. I manage to get to the login page and click 'connect', but at the next screen with 'Status...Version...Release notes' it has the word 'Patch!' on the far left, 'ONLINE' under 'Status', and '00500' under 'Version'. The 'connect' button does not work until I highlight the 'Patch' message line then I get a message that says 'Checking files for patch...' with a box below that says 'Set file attributes:./unpack/ryzom_00500.ldx' then after a while black popup box says 'Error: patch files failed - checking'. If I click the 'OK' button nothing happaens at all.

BTW, I checked in the Ryzom 'unpack' folder and there is no file named '00500.ldx' there. Is that right? There are lots of numbered files with '.idx' extension, but not a single '.ldx'.

Hope this sheds light on problem...?

Thanx 4 da help.

delete current ryzom folder and then reinstall it again using downloaded installer. or if it fails again with "patch 500", then you should redownload it (here).
even if it's slow download, dont use mirrors because they didnt change installer name when they did update and you cant be sure mirror has the new version. installer from this link works.

Thanks blaah. That seems to have done the trick. Well done. I was getting a bit worried as I had ordered and bought the game brand new from Amazon.com.

As my Saga of Ryzom boxed set didn't workl and (with your help) I had to download and install the game again, how does that affect my registration/membership/etc? Because if the answer is 'the freely available download is the same as the game you just bought from Amazon', then I want to return the game I purchased and ask for my money back, don't you think?

Thanx again.

ohh why do you want to return that pretty box ? (joke sorry)
about money back... it's probably just between You and Amazon.

Box version is pretty much useless now yep ;-( (it was possible to enter cd-key before, but not anymore).

patching from Retail CD to current status is possible (or was before servers got moved), but it took a day or hmm.. two ;-) a lot has changed from live.
