How long time should I stay on Silan?

Post by nolie101 »

Hey all,

just watched the other newbie thread in the general forums, so I figured I could ask here too. The thing is that I've played the game for a little more than one month, about 3 weeks as a paying subscriber and enjoying the game quite a bit. When I group up with other players, they often tell me that they've tried going to ML and were put down on how hard it is and therefore started up a new character on Silan in order to get it up to proper level before leaving (some saying level 50 is about adequate).

Personally I still enjoy Silan quite a bit. Problem is I'm a very social player and enjoy grouping and can see myself seeking for guilds when I go to ML. At the moment I'm about level 30-35 in both my magic sub sections, which is my primary professions. I have a handful of quests/missions left to do including both factions and the main (<whats his name> the strong). Problem with Silan isn't that there isn't any people but many of them playing there is trial only and will therefore quite within some weeks of play, or less and some leave for ML.

I'm not a hardcore player but more of the casual/RP type. I guess that's why I'm only that high in my magic skills until now. Playing a few hours most of the days in the week. What are your recommendations? When is it viable to leave for the Main Land and seek friendship with players and guilds in terms of my skills (levels) and so forth?

my advise is

1. dont leave silan before you did all your quests.
2. try to level your offensive skills to around 35 before you go.

one problem i have on mainland tough is to find the right mobs to level with.
They are to hard or to low
with a team it's no problem but in my level range (and yours) its not always easy to find them on the starters-village.
If you think that all newb's coming from silan divide themselfs between all different villages.

But its fun !! to explore the world !

Maybe it's also a good idea to not exhaust Silan completely and leave some fun so that you can create an alt and come back to it, when you want a little solitude, silence and anonimity.

On Silan more or less you're led from a mission to the next one. On ML you're given complete freedom. "That is why most men dread it." When something is too hard it means usually one of these things: you're not sneaking well (you didn't find the right way to it), you don't have the right gear, or there is another better fit place for your level. Too easy means regularly that you are not happy with under 3k xp (which is unrealistic or doesn't take into account hunting speed), you want soloing but not having patience for it, or there is another better fit place for your level.

As you spent so much on Silan I guess patience is as good as this game may hope for, as you're hungry for knowing more people i guess you'll never lack advise on things you won't discover on yourself, and soloing will not be much of an issue, as you care about the story, love for lore will make you learn sneaking as fast as it's possible, and won't allow you to get bored when xp will slow down.

neuze's advice is a good one, still I know people with lvl 2 skills who landed on ML before the RoS was implemneted, hence knwoing much less about the UI and game mechanics and still made their way and enjoyed this world.

All my ML chars have come up from the (old) islands at around lvl 10 or so skills and had no problems other than the odd gingo and my own stupidity. quests are good for learning the ropes and the rewards aren't bad , but better kit and fun lvling can be found on the ML.

Also - what Faa said; you can do Silan again later with an alt and explore at leisure. A lot of ppl do that I think. I certainly do *points at Lutton in siggy* and I always enjoy it :)
3:1, 2:1, 1:1 ... probability factor of one to one; we have normality. I repeat: we have normality. Anything you still can't handle is therefore your own problem.

I brought my lil guy over pretty quick..for some reason I thought 21 was the max level you could achieve on the island.
I cam over with 21 in off magic and fighting, and was starting to raise my other skills when I was like "ah forget it! on to adventure!"
If you come over, it's not hard at all, if you just ask lots ok questions and stick to the lower areas, which surround most of the main towns.
I did find the Tryker area easier then the Zorai, if that helps.
Also, if you need help, IM me and I'll show ya round! If I'm not on, you've got a whole community that loves it's youth lol...

Stay on Silan as long as you have fun there.

That's my intention from the beginning. I think I'll finish up the last few quests and then move onto ML. Thanks for the tips and responses from all of you. I'll be about level 35 in my main skills by then I think. Hopefully the move onto ML will make the game more deep and meaningful in terms of game play and social interaction than on Silan.
Thanks.

As long as with "...terms of gameplay..." you don´t mean, more " meaningful Quests", you should be OK ;)
Those will be hopefully implemented soon(tm) :D

On the old island I used to come over at L1 it was so boring. On Silan stay til you have done the tutorial missions. If you read them and follow there lead it will teach you the basics plus give you some great gear to begin your adventures.-Kil

Those will hopefully be implemented correctly. :p We don't need falsely-epic, over-praising "quests" like Chiang's or Guilan's.
