lvl 85 mage need ql 100 staff?

lvl 85 mage need ql 100 staff? i mean seriously, i know there arent many magi that have made it to 85 off magic yet, but the fact that at lvl 85 we need a ql 100 staff to cast our spells is simply cruel. Crafters cant keep up with our progress, and to my knowledge, no crafters on the uk server can make ql 100 staves. So im stuck looking at my acid 8 but unable to use it cuz acid 6 with my staff duz more damage than 8 with no staff..
Meleers CAN use wepons 10 ql above their strenght yet we HAVE to use staves 15 ql higher than our LEVEL ?
its either the guy who came up with the concept was on crack at the time or this is a gigantic bug, as this cant possibly be regarded as fair....
well at least they refunding some sp and giving us magical gloves in the patch

Staffs have little to do with your character level but are related to the spell level you're using. You can cast Acid 9 (= spell level 90) as soon as you get the stanza from your trainer, however you will get the boost only when your staff is at least the same level as the spell you're casting.

Thus you need a q90 staff for Acid 9, a q80 for acid 8, etc.

Actually the staff you can use *is* restricted by character level as you need Inteligence of 10 less than the staff quality to use the staff. As you Intelligence boosts are limited by level....

Those spells do not exist as you describe them. Also, the issue is another one.

You get acid 8 and lvl 85. Acid 8 is a lvl 100 spell (since it has a cost of 100 credits), so you need a lvl 100 staff for it. The spell lvl <-> staff relationship should be pretty much clear to any mage above lvl 20. I am quite sure pcheez knows it, too.

But, as said, what he complains about is something else: A lvl 85 fighter needs a lvl 80/90 weapon to have his full damage potential, a mage needs a lvl 100 weapon.

On a sidenote, there are lvl 85+ mages. I had already several questions if Icould make q100 staffs.

Looks like I need to level faster, I just assumed the spell progression would be the same as it is pre-50, but I only have Acid 4 now and until then it's pretty easy with Acid 1 being a level 10 spell, Acid 2 a level 20 spell, etc.

The other problem, from a harvesters point of view, is that when trying to pull q100 mats for example, you usually end up with q99 if you are in a higher qual area.

Sorry to inform you, my guild has:

1 weapon smith that can make Q110 magic staffs
1 Harvesters that can get Q250 mats
3 harvesters that can get Q223 mats
several that can get 148 mats


If there were the need for a crafter to make Q120 staffs im sure our weapon smith would get the full support of the guild to get there.

Oh and ozric, there is a trick to that but thats guild secret =P

Sure you just have to pick it up in Fair Haven. There might be a little problem with the stat thought since those are only managable with supreme mats and Trykers aren't able to get to Prime Roots so far.

But this whole post was a whine about that nobody can't craft Q100 staffs, not that nobody can craft those ultra good Q100 staffs.

Actually it was more about a melee <-> mages weapon lvl imbalance.
