huge router problem

huge router problem

ok so hi all - brand spanking new to the game and having problems....


so i looked over the sticky for router problems - read and undersyand what to do. the only problem is....

i live in a house wihth my 2 best buddies and the one who has the router in his room and therefore set up our network, doesnt remember the username/password he used for the router settings............

so am i just screwed and cant play or is there anything else i can do?

there will be reset switch on the router, hold it in for 10s and it will reset to default password (make sure you look this up on net beforehand). and umm hopefully you have your ISP details written down somewhere before doing this ;-)

Not allways needed, as most routers store the username and password (both for isp if needed and to login to the router) as pure text. As long as you are inside the network, such detalis can be easily pulled out. Some routers even use javascript as protection, and that means only the front page is protected, and you can easily skip to the rest of the stuff.

The again, on some routers the resetbutton need to be pressed in while you do something else, like plugging the power on, drinking a glass of milk and whisteling the french national song. Such detalis are often found on the manufacturers homepages.
