I often play healers or hybrid characters that can heal. Naturally, I took heal 1 & 2 on Silan. At first I would just heal anyone I saw that could use it, but no XP. Later I rezzed someone, but no XP. So I figured you had to be grouped. Next group I was in I rezzed 2 people and healed group members, but no XP.
I'd like to continue healing, but with no XP I'm not going to do much save fix some hangnails. What's the trick?

Re: Healing XP - how do you get it?
Heal during combat. Heal a teammate after they have inflicted damage, or they have healed someone else who has done - so they stand to earn some XP - and before the prey is killed, because at that point the XP is allocated and if you've not contributed then you'll miss out.

Re: Healing XP - how do you get it?
That make me ask another question to all the veteran healers :
What do you suggest to become a good healer ?
Should we (healers) combine our heal-skils with melee combat, or how do you play the game ?
My fist tought was to become healer-artisan. But i don't know if that will be a wise decision.
Healers tend to party a lot (otherwise : no xp), and wenn i use my time to lv crafting xp, i can't do it with other combat types.
Just a few suggestions, i would be thankfull

Re: Healing XP - how do you get it?
Silan is a difficult place to earn healing XP.
Either the player or the target tends to die extremely quickly, giving an extremely narrow window of opportunity for the healer to gain their XP.
To be valid to receive XP, you must contribute to the fight, which means a) damaging the target, b) successfully casting a spell on the target (not resisted, not immune ), or c) healing a non-zero amount of hp/sap/stamina on someone who has already accomplished a) or b) .. or c)
so a healer cant gain xp healing BEFORE anyone connects, and cant gain xp healing up the party AFTER the mob dies, as the xp reward is given when it dies, and wont gain xp if they heal hp when the recipient didnt have any missing at the time of healing....
It is better on the mainland, where fights last longer, and better gear is available for everyone.. Heal cast speed may be more important on magic amps than heal power, although both are vital
sometimes it is useful to not fully heal your damage-dealer after a fight, in order to have something to heal at the beginning of the next fight. More useful is to do a small heal of whatever your damage dealer is using for credits, eg stamina or sap, shortly after they initiate combat, and then concentrate on keeping them alive

Re: Healing XP - how do you get it?
competence in Melee is useful to everybody, its the fastest way to gain more HP, and eventually you will be using HP to power your spells alongside sap.neuze wrote:That make me ask another question to all the veteran healers :

by developing your Heal skills, you will also find it easier to improve your offensive magic abilities, having more sap to play with, and other spell credits etc.
Dont get hung up on a single character concept, Ryzom lets you mix-n-match as the whim takes you. Heal if its what you are interested in, but tank and nuke and affy and do the other stuff also
Re: Healing XP - how do you get it?
Most ppl do a bit of everything. Being a high lvl mage character without lvling melee also has the disadvantage of low HP, but is easily do-able. Crafting and digging you can do as much or as little of as you wish, and to a certain extent, a high lvl dig skill will help supplement your HP if you don't do a lot of meleeing. But as Iwojimmy said: there are no character "classes" in Ryzom. Just be what you wanna be, lvl whatever you feel like lvling on any particular day, you won't be penalised in any way, and you can return to lvling any neglected skills at any later date, as you feel the urge. Most of all, enjoy the gameneuze wrote:That make me ask another question to all the veteran healers :

3:1, 2:1, 1:1 ... probability factor of one to one; we have normality. I repeat: we have normality. Anything you still can't handle is therefore your own problem.

Re: Healing XP - how do you get it?
like others allready sayed, to gain XP as a healer you have to heal(at least 1 point) after the mob is hit and befor the Mob is killed.rakehell wrote:I often play healers or hybrid characters that can heal. this is best done this way:
team with one or more damagedealers(DD=fighters and/ or nukers)
start your spell when you see that your Main-DD attacks the mob with the approbiate non-HP heal/gift(Stam or Sap) as needed, instantly followed by a HP heal. after that heal as needed, that should ensure that you get XP when the mob is killed.
these are the Basics, which, rightly, leads to this questions:
that are best answered this way:neuze wrote:What do you suggest to become a good healer ?
Should we (healers) combine our heal-skils with melee combat, or how do you play the game ?
NEVER use the Spells like you get them from the trainers... allways restanza them.
NEVER use timecredits(exept if you´re lvl 150+... then you´ll may need even them), use Sap>HP>Range(in this order) to credit your healspells.
KNOW the Mobs, know how hard they hit to know WHEN to heal.
KNOW when to RUN, if a hunt goes bad and the aggro is allready onto you, it may be to late to run, better run and return, then a full wipe of the group you´re hunting with.
KNOW where to run to, so you can return and rez the rest.
ALLWAYS have your teamwindow open so you see WHO needs WHAT healed.
level melee to get the HP upgrades from it(melee=every 10th lvl an upgrade, healer=only every 20th lvl an upgrade). you´ll need the HP to credit your spells sooner or later and if the hunt goes bad.. to run

NEVER heal in HA, MA may be used in a pinch, but LA is a good healers choice.
with this in mind you´ll be able to be a good healer.
some general good advise(not only for healers):
if you go to the trainers, ALLWAYS buy attribute upgrades first, how tempting this extra damagestanza or new spell may be.
everything that is dead befor the first heal hits is to low to be worth hunting it, everything that kills the Main-DD befor the HP heal hit is to high (maybe not for the healer but the DD

please, learn at least basic healing(lvl50-75), to rez if needs be, even if you don´t like to be a healer.
get the speeding and melee protection aura powers with melee, it´s allways good for a getaway if you get to much/to high aggro.
enchant your weapon with a high heal(ask your healer if he´s higher then you), to get those nice 0sec in a pinch heals.
ALLWAYS keep your healer in a good shape... so if you nuker, throw a heal now and then, if you´re a melee refill your healer between fights... he will remember it when he heals YOU!
with this(and a few more) tricks/tips i got my healing up to 230+(got a bit lazy lately, thx to crafting) easily and hope to get my first master title with "Celestial Guardian" soon.
greetz and good luck fellow Healers!

Re: Healing XP - how do you get it?
hmmm, I seem to remember some patch changing it so that you got heal xp regardless of whether or not the person you healed needed healing at the time, provided they had gained xp themselves (either by causing damage or whatever)? I could be wrong tho, but it sticks in my mind as something they changed...iwojimmy wrote:wont gain xp if they heal hp when the recipient didnt have any missing at the time of healing
Re: Healing XP - how do you get it?
Healers have the advantage of targeting friendlies, not hostiles, and therefore dont have to worry about spell resistance etc. This means a Healer is still a useful team member at much lower levels than the offensive party members.
Some people take it to the extreme of saying healers MUST be lower than the damage dealers, but that is just silly. Healers need to level just like everyone else.
Even a lowb healer is still valuable in a high level party, because the one person a Celestial Guardian (lvl 250 healer) cant do anything for, is themselves
so if you are trekking, or on a guild night out, or whatever, and feeling like a bit outclassed and superflous, just concentrate on healing the main healers
As you become familiar with the game you will want to set up some macros.
I use some to target people I team with regularly, and a set to target team members. Another useful trick is to edit your inscene display, to show friendly HP, Sap, and stam so you can see at a glance if anyone near you needs topping up.
