Completely Far-Fetched and Unlikely Idea for Ryzom

I'm aware that this idea is a bit unrealistic but here goes anyway:

Microsoft recently cancelled True Fantasy Live Online, a console based, Xbox specific MMO that was in development for many years. It was wildly anticipated and a lot of people were upset to see it tossed. However, Nevrax could take advantage of this event by developing a ported version for the Xbox.

This version would directly connect with the current servers that we, the PC players, are already using. This would allow Xbox players and PC players to simultaneously interact and play together on the same servers. It is not impossible as it's already being done with Final Fantasy XI Online. PS2 and PC players are currently playing the same game on the same servers, together.

The amount of money needed to do this would be extreme, but if Nevrax was to team up with Microsoft on the deal, they could manage.

So there's my highly unlikely, (dream) idea. Please feel free to tell me it will never happen :D

<<<<<shudder>>>>> Look at the mess M$ made with Asheron's Call until Turbine took full control back. I would hate to see Nevrax make the same mistake!!!!

As long as all microsoft did was provide the cash it could be ok, then again having to play with a bunch of console players, which i mean experience is usually a bunch pre teen morons...then perhaps its not a good idea. The console crowd and the online mmorpg pc gaming crowd are two very distinct groups....

But yes Sony are doing it as we speak, and i gather that has been reasonably successful so it could work.

Well, I for one was one of the console players and I am definately NOT a teen anymore :P

That aside, M$ would never just provide the money, they would want to change a few things here and there to better suit thier customer base. No, I'm sorry, however I don't think this will ever happen...

Maybe in the future when it gets going, but this game has enough problems without introducing those from consoles as well.

Nevrax has other plans for the future... somewhere on the horizons there are plans to release the long anticipated linux port of the saga of ryzom. they always had plans to do release a linux-version and i am sure they will work on it as soon as there is some free manpower. :)

honestly, i dont think that microsoft is currently lookin into the mmorpg market to team up with smaller teams.; they actually focus on Vanguard: Saga Of Heroes, made by an quite impressive team under direction of Brad, one of the big heads behind everquest1.

But hey... nice vision ;)

It's a good idea, but sadly I think it's more likely to happen to EQ2 or to WoW. The really big names, because MS won't enter into something unless they know there's money to be made, and this would be a risk.

Sure sure Krae, what ever helps you sleep at night man.

This is Cricket by the way, your local friendly noob isle crafter.

Yes I agree though M$ would be too interested in changing little things and then mass marketing it to anyone who would buy. Which while growing the population, would result in many things current players would hate, an influx of idiots and a rough transitional period while the Neverex tried to fix their mistake.

i like it the way it is...don't see why a console is needed to play anyway...

As far as MS providing the money, they would. MS changing anything in the game? No. Nevrax has the copyright on it and has complete control over its authorization and distribution. MS couldn't touch that. The only thing MS could do was port the PC version over to the Xbox under the supervision of Nevrax.

It will never happen.

That said, I'd dance for joy if it did. A console version wouldn't suffer from crippling hardware incompatabilities. -_-
