If someone (not nesc. me but someone) was to host a ring held event where some of the 'greatest minds' on atys could come and debate a heated topic in a non intrusive, PvP free, 'mature' way. would you participate?

Would you attend if the topic was changed regualry, ofcourse there will always be the 'same old' discussion but if the theme was to change would that make you want to attend?

We see alot of the same old debates happen in the forums, is it best that they are kept here/there? or should there be a place for people to let off steam in real-time, with the person who's running the ring event to be impartial but firm for people greifing etc. (i.e booting people from the scenario if things deteriate far beyond repair)??

Way back when i was in HZ there used to be a Guild leaders council that used to meet every so often.

It was kept to Guild Leaders or Nominated delegates from each guild otherwise it got out of hand with nutters dancing infront of whoever was trying to speak etc.

Dunno if a more open format would work here or have similar problems.

I think that Beefy'd be pretty interested in it. I for one know that he doesn't have much to offer mentally, but he's always glad to throw his 1cents into the pot.

I love to debate and I wouldn't take part in something like this. For the simple reason that having experienced multiple boards, people don't know how to debate. What I mean by that is most people have the inability to discuss a topic without getting emotional or taking things personally.

I think debates could be very fun and productive if done properly.

Alas, our way of life have not accustomed the general public, like the old greek cities did, to debate. All we know is "experts" or politicians who appear on tv to debate.
I am sure some have had proper training on how to present their ideas. But as we all know and see in the forums, different players follow different code of behaviour.

Maybe Norvic presented us with some guidance to how it could be done?

Yes yes yes!! I think this would be awesome and possibly 'spark' a little more player invlovement in the Ring and not have 1 person comes to a scenerio, plays through it, leaves. Then next person, ect.

maybe a council for the guilds is in order, from DoK, its not likely that buckwheat takes care of it, as i have all that does with forum and PR(PR=public realations, not Prime roots ), its a good plan, maybe once a month or twice a month?

This is a tough one, not all things have an RP side and there seems to be some good vibes from them on this. Nothing would be binding so in spirit it would all be RP.

During "conferences" in the past, many of us have seen the host totally dictate the topic as well as quell dissention. In the end it mattered not what was said, the agenda was set before the first word muttered. As much as this would intrigue the RP side of me, there are some that would still act out and turn it into a no joy.

I think it would be better served in the RP forum and using that format...
