anyone wonder if the world map might not be laid out accurately?

Post by kipestia »

the Prime Roots look pretty clearly like they are underground, despite not being able to see the ceiling, there are rare spots where a hole shines light through, but otherwise the area above you is always black.

does anyone think the different lands might not actually be laid out the way the map shows them? perhaps all four lands completely cover the area on the map where the PR areas are. Otherwise there's huge amounts of above-ground land that's unexplored, right in the middle of explored lands.

In the beginning when I was reading the lore and looking at the maps, I thought the Lands of Umbra (the long thin stretch of PR) was the river running beside the Verdant Heights / forest from Aeden Aqueous / lake up to the Burning Desert, to supply the Fyros with water. I don't think it's anywhere near that straight-forward any more though.

I sorta wonder if the desert isn't rotated 45 degrees one way, and the jungle rotated 45 degrees another way... there's an area off the north of the jungle map that looks similar to the nexus minor, and an area of green surrounding the desert town of Thesos in the south-east that almost looks like the cliffs of the forest

the way the sky moves might give us a clue as to whether or not even some lands are rotated, not merely just shifted. (whether intentionally designed that way or not, so it could be misleading if the lands are meant to be rotated but the moon and sun travel across the sky as if they were aligned the way the map shows)

It's really hard to explain impassible terrain... homins are smart enough to build ladders. they should be able to scale any cliff given time and lack of aggro. It's too bad there's no way to make anything in this game that could be gradually discovered. as soon as one person finds it, everyone rushes there and soon it is no longer new and there is the desire for more.

Someone once posted a "real" map of atys based on the compass location of the main cities when in other lands. Tried searching for it but couldn't find it though, perhaps the OP of that or someone with better search skills than myself can post the address?

I think its just the way it is, because a full 3D map would have been wheee bit overpowered. ;)

IMHO the New-Lands do cover the Prime Roots. It´s only logical.

Depends if the designers actually planned it that way and it actually makes any sense... (any Out of Caverners remember the co-ordinate system in Uru? ;) ) anyways, I suck at finding things online, so don't look at me to find it. :)

I just don't know why the PR map is on the same map as the above-ground lands are. the newbie lands are on a separate map. the towns are on mini-maps. heheh. would be funny if the PR were on town-like mini-maps.

One thing that's always bugged me about the town maps is that they share the zoom settings with the world map... so when you have a normal zoom on a town map and you go to the region map... you're zoomed way uh... I forget if it's out or in, but they are not compatible.

also, anyone remember the 3D rendered maps? I think they were on Ryzom.raum.com ages ago. they even had... that's strange. I thought they had island maps that were never used, but I don't seem to have them with the rest... ah well. it's really cool to see how different it looks. you realize the jungle is mostly small pockets of valleys surrounded by "bark" walls. (the bark which is the surface of the planet)

Thanks. I wish I knew how they did that. World of Warcraft has a 3D model viewer for it. I wish Ryzom had that. ... out of game, that is.

Oh yes. :)
Spherical co-ordinates (r, theta, phi) with a twist (sign reversal in certain quadrants).
I've still got the co-ordinates for the final (calibration) markers if you need them. ;)
