Harvesting, it's what ive done least this past week since I activated my account. I really find it pretty boring, but I always want the best out of this games, so I won't leave it behind. And crafting, which I think is amazing in this game, seems it can't be done properly without harvesting. So I got a few questions to see if i can understand all this gathering thing better.
- Why is it really needed? I got about 40 in crafting and 20 in harvesting. I get lots of mats from hat I kill, so I always use those items for crafting. Even when I harvest, it takes longer to prospect+harvest a node than to kill a mob that gives 1000xp and mats. and then I need different places for each part of the item I want to craft. While killing gives me mats of each type for each slot of the crafting.
-Maybe the crafted items are better with harvested mats, but then: is it worth for leveling crafting? Because I level so fast that I dont really care about having good armor. Benefits are minimal with light armour anyway. So, for leveling crafting is it better to use mobs mats?
- Am i doing something wrong? It really seems so slow to get harvested items. takes a lot to find the nodes (ok only 1 time) then prospect and then harvest. Again, while killing I get magic xp and more mats.
- what harvest stanzas should i use? I have been told that gentle is the way to go, at least solo. But I always get higher qls with harmful, so when would it better to get lower ql??
Any other tips will be welcome, since I think I musst be doing something wrong, because it seems too timeconsuming for me.
thanks!

try harvesting excellent spot (time/weather must be right) in aggro spawn with herbivores near you... funkalto1 wrote:Harvesting, it's what ive done least this past week since I activated my account. I really find it pretty boring, ...

check xp values in my sig to see why harvesting is needed.Even when I harvest, it takes longer to prospect+harvest a node than to kill a mob that gives 1000xp and mats.
.. and dappers (mainly) come from harvesting

at low level, it do take time to get mats from foraging, but at higher level (around lvl 200+- Am i doing something wrong? at first, yep. gentle speed, harmful rate (imho), gentle quality for best stability.- what harvest stanzas should i use? I have been told that gentle is the way to go, at least solo. But I always get higher qls with harmful, so when would it better to get lower ql??
Re: tips about harvesting
i tought harvesting was boring too, when i started, and i transfered to ML with only 14 in it
then i wanted to craft a bit, and make some dappers to buy a new armor. so i took my pick and foraged the ambers near fh. it passed times, and as i was near the stables, there was always some activities so i wont get bored.
as a lot said, harvesting get easier and easier as you level, and in my case it kinda begun to be addictive lol
first, dig the spot near your city, less xp cos no prospect, but its quicker and you can sell those mats. improve your prospecting ( accelerate prospecting is very nice, angle 20 and range 10 make the prospect far easier )
then as said above, forget about harmful extraction, gentle one is a must, rate and speed can be harmful, but remember that if you blew the source, its less xp.
it just take a wee bit of patience, but harvesting begin to be quite enjoying past the lvl 30

Re: tips about harvesting
Quartered mats will be mostly Fine and Basic quality.. its hard to get enough excelent or supremes from killing stuff
Once you get going, you probably wont even bother to dig basic or fine, Choice is the standard quality, and minimum acceptable for use by players
Digging gives you more control over what you get, and is just more reliable... but it is painfully slow to get to a useful level.
My recommendation is to learn the Careplan actions, and leech xp off an experienced digger to bypass the below 100 doldrums.

Re: tips about harvesting
From my, admittedly lacking, experience with the game so far, I've found that while killing is indeed faster for filling up your backpack, even at the lower levels harvesting will still be faster for getting a decent supply of that one resource you need, as soon as you learn material filtering (which you can start getting at 21 iirc).
