Nub question about the mainland...

Post by ozxenu81 »

Firstly, Hi all - I upgraded my account a few days ago and haven't looked back since. So nice to find an MMO that has some depth to it - My first MMO was SMG a few months before the NGE... Needless to say, I really dont like SOE for ruining the wonder that is SW... I've recently been hooked on the timesink called WoW but have been getting bored of the same-old as of late.

So I ground out a lot of skills on Silan and now have headed to the mainland... But now what? Are the generic quests given out by people in the villages (Matis-side, tho im assuming every races starting area is the same concept) simply for fame/honour/dappers? Or is there some greater scheme you will eventually get thrown into?

I'm enjoying the game, dont get me wrong... I've always enjoyed crafting of some form and this game certainly delivers there... I just keep hearing about how un-static the game is and the missions dont seem to change.

Not from NPC quest-givers. What you've seen is all there is (just higher level stuff in the higher level towns).

Larger scheme: see my answer below.

That is referring to the GMed events. This is where you have a chance to actually impact the world of Atys directly, by participating in events and interacting with GM-run NPCs and other players. They have an event every week or two, usually on Saturday or Sunday, often running parts of it a couple of times so people in different time zones can get involved.

There is also the Ring, which allows players as well as GMs to make up "instanced" adventures and run them for each other and so forth.

Then there are outposts, which are owned and fought over by guilds, if you are into PVP.

And eventually they're going to implement "Spires" which, at least as far as I can tell, will cause different zones to be Kami, Kara, etc... and I think these will change as people fight and die over the territory (but I am not sure exactly since it has not been fully implemented yet).

You get the dynamic ("un-static") content from player- and GM-controlled happenings not from automated NPCs.

Glad to see another new subscriber... Learn to accept all the good things about this game, and the people around you. Take ANYTHING you read in the forums (including my post I guess) with a grain of salt.

If you consider Yubo Soccer and/or a "Meet the Guilds" type thing an event... then in the broadest of strokes one could say we have events regularly.
There is also the Ring, which allows players as well as GMs to make up "instanced" adventures and run them for each other and so forth.
For all it's potential, the Ring is a level editor... Some have shown themselves to be expressive storytellers... All in all it's pretty much a timesink and has yet to reach it's full potential. It's getting better but as of yet it's a mapmaker.
Then there are outposts, which are owned and fought over by guilds, if you are into PVP.
Nothing incorrect here, but outposts are not often battled over. Maybe one day dynamics will change this. Having been an OP holding guild since they were implemented, and not missing any battles if possible... I don't think they are a PvP lovers dream.

Spires... a game breaker if you listen to the community... As originally concepted it would've actually made some players work and play for fame and pick a side. This went over like a lead balloon (long story of our static, non-dynamic world...) and though it never seemed close to release... it is now in dev limbo. If we see it, it won't likely be soon and will be a shadow of the original plan.

To date, other than maybe a different faction defeating a boss on each server during the mega events... Nothing really impacted anything and was usually just a way to push the story, ever so slowly forward.

Take your grain of salt and believe what ya see and not what ya hear... We have great folks, an intriguing world and generally stellar CSR team. I have yet to kill an Orc and find a +5 cloak of awesomeness... but even having been there, done that... I enjoy the folks I play with in my guild and have alot of respect for others I have fought besides and against in Atys. Find those people that do this for you and the game will draw you in the rest of the way... just don't believe everything you read.

Amen to that. The community and CSR are 2 of the best things about this game. Even when we fall out, we do it in a good way. ;)

Also it's good to make sure to do all those little missions because some of them give you a step to unlocking a Rite, to fill in more Lore and Knowledge in your Encyclopedia, which I *think* unlocks access to some things and that progresses.

So working on your Amber Cubes and Rites can be seen as a bigger picture framework over all the fetch and kill quests.
