Why the credit cost change to vamp between beta & retail?

During beta mages got an awsome effect brick called vampirism 1/2/3/etc they still do but the effect is different. The original vamp 1 brick was +30 or +35 to a spell, but sucked back and healed about 78hp as long as your nuke did at least that much damage. It still sucks back 78hp currently for vamp1, but the credit cost was changed from the old value that enabled you to use it on spells with an HP credit for drawing out your sap reserves longer or as a minor increase in spell cost in exchange for a bit of HP back... to a new value of +65 credit to use it. The +65 credit brick will predictably cost you 78 hp to use, thus completely negating any benefit you may have gotten.

As a level 65 ability, it takes back far far too little HP to really be worth the rather large cost that it has on your spell. You can't use it to reduce the cost of a nuke. You can't use it to heal yourself and accomplish much without draining your sap pool dry quickly. Would be really nice if this way put back and/or fixed in a way that made it useful again ;)

Well, nothing more to add to this one. Vamp was slightly overpowered previously, but now it isn't balanced - it's sledgehammered into uselessness.
