Badly Designed newb area!

Post by jamesl »

I have been playing this game for 35 min to find out the newb area does not give me the info I need on how to start out. That’s on the forums and other URL's. If I need to train from the start to be effective why do I need to spend 20 min to go looking for the trainer? Why don’t I start there with some info on picking a path? Your game maybe awesome but getting people hooked should take no more then 5-10 min. Ryzom's newb area NEEDS allot of work!

Hello there.

You will find that all the information you request is available in your start location. Perhaps you did not notice it, but you begin on a hill next to Chiang the Strong. He is the first quest-giver, and explains the game and gives you a starter quest. That hill is further surrounded by 4 racial groups, each of which has a quest-giver that gives you tutorial quests for one of the four skill sets (Harvesting, Crafting, Magic, and Fight).

I'm sorry but if you missed those, I don't think you can blame Nevrax. They are as plain as the nose on your face.

It's HAD a lot of work. Not too long ago, there were four separate newbie islands that were so bad people left for the mainland almost immediately (when such was possible during a time-limited trial).

There is one camp in the vicinity of the initial spawn point, organized into sections relating to skills (i.e. the melee area with merchants, mission NPC, and trainer just a matter of meters northwest of the spawn point). The fact it took you twenty minutes to find a trainer...makes me wonder...I'll leave it at that.

To be fair it can be difficult in the dark. The ranger camp can be a bit disorienting.

To help with that, make sure you use your map, and right click to add landmarks. Also if you find it's dark and hard to see, hit the "L" key and a personal light will turn on to help you visually.

Ooooo I been put in my place lol. Eather way, any other mmo I have played in 30 min play time I am not still scratching my head on how to play. Thats even going back to the simple old EQ days. I have some friends here who are raving about this game so I am going to give it a go. But it does need to be said and I hope they fix it!

That is not something that needs to be "fixed." :) That is, I believe, a feature.

Any one know a good guide on mages? I found one on the forum but no one seems to agree with the poster!

Really is nothing to fix... Here are two options, go around and see what NPCs there are, perhaps even talk to them? Or even better, ask someone from the friendly and cooperative bunch of other players? Didn't take me 30 mins, but more like 30 seconds...

[EDIT] there's also a very informative and entertaining starter guide available at http://www.ryzom.com/documentation/Manuals

If I would have known after five minutes what I have to do, not sure if I would have liked the game. After spawning in silan , first of all I checked out the village, I think that was half the fun to get me intrested, than I checked out the Interface, and after that I checked on the NPC´s till I found Chiang, and realized he´s been right in front of me, were I started the whole game.
As I made the sightseing tour allready, I knew where all important NPC´s stood. But I enjoyed the first half an hour checking everything myself. How horrible If somebody would have taken me by the hand and would have told me right at start of what to do.
I think Silan is a brilliant made starter Island, the game Ryzom has a lot of things wich I find sometimes very enoying but the starter Island is defenetively not one of them
