I got tired of EVE-Online and was recommended this game by a friend.
1) Do items wear out and break in this game (armor, swords, etc)?
2) How does leveling work? Does your character advance in levels, or does the character's skill ability advance in levels (to the 250 max)? Is it theoretically possible to max all of the different skills?
3) Does your character, or pets / mounts, have to eat to stay alive?
4) Is there a limit on the amount of money you can have? (I am asking because I evaluated a game that limited the max amount of money you could carry based on your character's level).

1) Yes, but usually you outgrow them before you wear them out, except in some cases.
2) You level your skills, and each skill branches out as you get to a certain level, and indeed you can reach to 250 in everything.
3) Not sure, but I don't think so, havent had to feed my packer. As for A Mount, I think you got to have some food to keep it going.
4) No limit that I know of.
Re: Newbie Questions
Adding a bit (for a hopefully fellow Amarr):
1. All items you can equip wear by fighting, healing, crafting and quite limited by harvesting, too. Wear is also dependant on the "opposing factor", eg. in fighting/healing the lower your used skill compared to the hunted, the more wear - and in PvP the hunted rating for Homins is real high
3. No, they don't need to. They do need to feed to be able to move around with you at running speed however.
4. No limits.
5. Happy evaluating

Re: Newbie Questions
Yep, I played Amarr in EVE. I liked not having to worry about ammo.
Here is a follow-up question: is it possible to have items that do not break? In a game I used to play, you could get special holy water that would make it so your items would never break. Does this game have anything like that?

but finding replacement gear isn't too much of a chore, since the game has a healthy crafting community

Re: Newbie Questions
and almost everyone is willing to help, if not everyone
but as I said, you wont bother at the begining, since youl outgrow them faster than they wear out
