Does Race Matter?

Post by dizza »

Brand new player here I have a question about race that I haven't been able to find, Does race matter when it comes to skills? Or is it only for cosmetic and faction reasons?

In most mmorpgs some races are better suited for magic and then others for melee because of some behind the scenes stats, is this the case in Ryzom? If there are some differences in stats is there somewhere where they are listed?

Nope not at all, any race can do any skill.

It's all about which you like the look of most and which mainland you want to start in when you leave the Ruins of Silan.

There originally was a plan to make each race unique (and have classes) but I think we are too far past where it would be wise to add those in. Race matters only for initial racial fame and you can relatively easily be in any faction regardless of your race if you don't mind a little more work.

Good luck to you, remember you will see your choice constantly... make it asthetically pleasing to you at least :P

Cartman: You can't be the dwarf character, Butters, I'm the dwarf.

Butters: Well, there's only like four races to choose from-

Cartman: So pick another one! I'm the dwarf, you stupid *******! Log out, create a new character, and log back in!

Butters: [walks off grumbling] I like Hello Kitty Island Adventure a lot more 'n this stuff.

Each race has an improved innate magical resistance to spells from their ecosystem. It's a trifling matter, though really ;)

DT probably remembers when the Fyros were the slow pokes of Atys, Zorai were the marathon runners (almost scout-like) and Matis were middle of the road. No one knew what a Tryker looked like back then.

There also seemed to be a huge offensive elemental advantage to lvling in your homland at that same time.

All of the above abilities/traits were removed just before retail.
High Officer of The Pyr Militia (Aris)
The least liked guild on Arispotle to date.

Guild Leader of Infinity (Currently Inactive - Aris)

Most feared PvP guild on Arispotle to date.

SoR ~ SWG ~ SRO ~ RFO ~ WoW

Waiting for the SoR devs to make an update since April 2004 (besides Mounts & OP's. Don't even bother mentioning Ring).

I wont give away my alts. names.. but yes, things used to be different. DoubleTap was not my favorite CSR gurus (Takashi) favorite name for me... My original Zorai alt grew up in Fyros... he has issues :P

When Wlykroe and I originally were trying to plan Melinoe for release we had to think hard what we wanted, we both had Zorai alternates during Beta that we liked (Though when we met he was Zorai and I was Matis, I was soloing in HS back when mages could s/h)... We settled on the Matis as it was what the N/A community beta tested and we knew Verdant Heights thru and thru...

But yes, height used to matter... now only ping does for running :P
