The trial version limits you to the starter island and a level cap in all skill trees. Not sure, but I believe the level cap is 21? Might be lower.
The full version has no level cap and you can access the full world of Atys.

Remedium is spot on. The trial version allows you to play for as long as you want for free but there are limits. You can't raise any skill past 21 and you can't leave the starter island and go to the mainland.
Once you subscribe, you can continue to level on the starter island and, when you're ready, teleport to the mainland. The mainland is much bigger than the starter island, there's more to explore and more to do and more people to meet.
