Heading off to the Mainland, some questions before I go

Hi, I have a level 45 fighter, and have decided its time to hit the mainland.
I tend to play hybrids in RPG's, becasue I prefer lots of options as opposed to power in any situation, and generally like to keep busy.
but I'm a realist above all, and will always turn to what ever works the best.
I really like the Ryzom skill system, in theory, but I'm also wondering and hoping is also works in practice?

On newbie island, for the sake of learning I just increased skills I wanted individually, which is fine for learning, but for enjoyment I'm hopeing to create a working hybrid, which I can progress in the game without having to grind on individual skills and still stay on par with other players. would this possible in ryzom?

I'm currently thinking between either fighter/offensive affliction or fighter/defensive affliction
offensive affliction, hasn't really worked for me on newbie island, if I land a slow or a blind, it only last a second, does this change later on? or do I need to be dedicated to offensive affliction for it to work?

Also wondering if its possible to gimp yourself at level 30 - 50?
I'm guessing you can only gimp yourself in terms of time spent, for gaining skill points to spend on training. but if true that could lead to unwanted level grinding,
I guess what I want to know, is re-rolling of any real benefit?

hehee! I think you miss a little point of Ryzom, it is skill based, not class based. So you can make your hybrid for sure, he can be fighter/offensive affliction and fighter/defensive affliction, or even fighter/offensive affliction/defensive affliction.

Or any other skill you want to put in ofcourse

And no, there is no way you can gimp your character between lvl 30-50. (Well, maybe you can, but only if you know what you are doing and are trying to gimp him...) You can buy skills that are not very usefull, but just get some more levels, and you will have more sp to get a usefull skill.

Only reason to reroll if you joined the wrong race...

just a little note, afflictions are team based skills really. It's possible to solo in Ryzom, but not on every mob, and not with every skill. Much more fun to be had in teams though
