On the mainland, you have to visit a certain representative of the faction you wish to join - to each land their own, thus no directions. But you have to have a fame of +30 with the faction you wish to join prior to being able to do so, that leaves you with enough time to find that one

Possibly some fan- or guildsites have a guide, but I can't think of any rightaway, Melinoe's propably... There was one in these forums from short after release - the macroing system hasn't changed since, only the thread disappeared from standard view. Consider doing a search.
