Frustrations

Post by patha »

Have read through a few posts and know what kind of replys I am likely to get so hope to head them off - however, I do have a gripe about the move from noob island to the mainland.

I expect the mainland to be tougher and I also and fully like the non-quest driven world even though it does become a grind if you do want to level (I am sure a pile of those characters what will object to that are already lvl 250 in thier chosen career). What is the worst is the lack of progression on mob lvls.

If I want to lvl my offensive magic at the moment I have to hunt out the 1 or 2 4x mobs in the first area. Even then it is a dogey business - even if they don't pulp me I have to rest for ages afterwards. In addition to this the bulk of these creatures are pack animals like gingos. Anything higher and it is instant death. I have spent 3 hours this morning going out attempting to work on magic; getting killed after 1 mob (if I am lucky) and then foraging so I can work of my dp (it is the only thing that gives me any xp without killing me).

I don't expect it to be easy and on a plate but I do want to progress. If I cannot find a way of doing this then I will leave. One of the answers is to join a guild but it would be nice to do something of it yourself. The guild option seems to be power lvl through a high lvl player assisting you all the time. That is fine but I do not want to be nannied along.

So in essence someone needs to look at the levels and distributions of the 3x and 4x mobs in the starter areas of the mainland to reflect more of the noob island experience. I need to be allowed to get some lvls in combat myself without earning only 1k xp every 10 mins (due to resting). I have spend ages with MMORPGs where you define your own direction and prefer that method but this is beginning to get annoying.

Would you also consider teaming with another young homin as being led by the hand? I do agree though, that you don't have to join a guild at this time. But being a part of a good team, is and always will be the better solution.
That way you will find new friends and that in my view is the reason to be playing an mmo at all ;)

if you want to solo then you have to set your expectations a lot lower. teaming is the answer, there is no need to powerlevel anything, just find other people your around your level and go out and have some fun.

If you must solo then its vital to get good equipment, the stuff you may have left the starter island with is next to useless.

sorry if that sounds like i'm biting your head off, blame the lack of coffee :)

As the others have said, better gear and teaming are probably the best answers for fast leveling, but soloing without long down times is certainly possible. That said, for leveling offensive magic/elemental the only gear that really matters is your amp. If you are using the best icy/frosty amp from Silan, then you're good till your spells outgrow it.

If you're really spending 10 min. after a 1k exp kill, then your skill distribution, stanzas and tactics may need revising.

Have you learned all the metabolism and wisdom you can so your hits and sap regenerate as fast as they can? If not, you may need to team for a few levels to get the skill points to bump your regen stats.

Are you using the spells stanzas you got from the trainer? If so you need to modify them. Take out the time credit on all but your longest range pull spell. After the pull, use 2-3 spells with increasing range credits as the critter charges towards you.

As a solo nuker, you want to fight things that will die at your feet baring an unusually bad string of resists. Are you attacking at max range? After targeting, right click on your compass and select "Target sprightly yubo" and check the range. Don't pull till the range is 47-50 m. Yubo's have no special resistance or attack, aren't social, and are the solo target of choice as long as the scampering/sprightly yubo's give decent exp.

Mobs on the mainland are a little tougher, but the big difference is that more are social. You need to learn which are social and how far your target can be from their herd mates before you can safely nuke-pull it. Gingos aren't social, they just have a huge agro range. The ragus special attack is to call for help from it's pack mates, but gingo's seem to have the same ability due to their agro range.

Of course if you're complaining about gingo's, you may be a Matis and you're best strategy would be to start over as a Zorai.

It'd be helpful to those of us who wish to hint you into a direction if you posted your in about level melee and offensive magic as well as your race...
'Cause then, we'd be able to tell you things like "Go near lake imaginesome and chop the heads off of the Izam there until you've reached about level xx". Will that be kind of boring grinding when soloed? Or maybe take the fun away from the exploration thingy (which includes fauna, tried competing against flora already?)? Well...up to you -we'll be hinting you anyway. :D
Izam are quite nice XP givers as a solo option as well, btw... or any aggro that you can easily defeat - aggros always give more XP...
Whatever you do, just have fun doing it :)

The key to mainland hunting whilst solo, is to find the spots that work for you... there is no smooth flow from difficulty to difficulty as you move further away from your starting location.

I played mostly solo when I came to mainland, and quickly found that running from one town to the next could be a little scary without knowing the best path to take. It's all about exploring and marking on your map the good spots to pull from. :)

If you are Matis, send me a tell in-game. I would be happy to show you where I started out with my hunting.

hate to say it was desinged as a team co-op game...Kinda helps to team most mobs are designed for easy death if "Homins" work together.for survival
a Homin can do mush but a Team of Homins can do it all...well a good team :)
plus its way more fun to have someone around you can say "woot..Ding...new title...omg they hit us all so fast and hard!!!"

Nice conclusion, Miss Narr :D

Welcome to Atys Patha :) Something you'd do well to bear in mind when trying to clear death penalty: the amount cleared is the experience that you would have earned multiplied by the skill level used/10. So if your forage level is far from your highest skill then you may be making a grind of dp clearance. Quickly nuking a handful of safe, easy 500 exp mobs might be better for you?

Solo is possible. But you have to learn how to solo.

You need to find the right mobs and the right spot to hunt them. Sometimes it's far away from the place you were gaining your previous levels.

You need to find better gear and learn how to use it with a good deck of actions. If you kill a mob in 4 shots with one amp and 3 shots with another, I let you imagine with which amp the mob will almost never touch you. Always wear jewels at your max levels. Find light or heavy armors with good stats.

You need to work a bit of melee skils to have some HP and the melee aura to protect you.

Always search easy kills. If a gingo hunt a ploderos, attack the gingo during the fight.

And most important : find a veteran and go in solo hunt with him. He will see what you do wrong and can correct you with very useful advices.

The last time I've helped someone in the mainland, he was using his amp with a heavy armor and no jewels. In Silan you can hunt like that, on the mainland, you will only die or hunt yubos... It's a big mistake, but there are plenty others not so obvious you can do.

All good advices above me. There isn't much to add, and I agree with Jezabel. Soloing is something you have to learn. Fiddle around with all sort of mixed stanzas and such. You have a few tools at hand that helps, like root/fear. When I arrived at the mainland the only thing that killed me was the social behaviour, I didn't knew wich creatures are social and wich aren't. Oh and it isn't only race-race social. Messabs are social with Izams, found that one out when I attacked an Izam yesterday in the middle of 7 Messabs :D
