Well, I've started several characters just to get a feel for the basics but I keep comming across the same problem. Whenever I go to see a trainer they dissapear and I'm stuck in the room unable to get out. At one point I was in mid-conversation and after she dissapeared I was unable to continue the quest I was on.
Now I know this will get fixed, but the question I have is.
I am unable to quarter monsters after I kill them, the game says I am not yet authorized to do so. is this because I can't seem to talk with the harvester without her dissapearing on me?

No, it sounds as though you might be fighting a bit too closely to the guards, and they're attacking the monster you're fighting. Try venturing a bit out of town and seeing if you have any more luck.
