The Ryzom Ring Beta Manual

Post by marct »

In the news on the home page i saw a link to the Ryzom Ring Manual (beta). Well I figured I might as well take a look.

Well you say? Well holy Bodoc dung! I was amazed. I really cannot believe how much better and more functional it appears to be than anything any of the previews or videos showed of the demos. This is going to be a revolution!!!

The ability to script the scenario, controlling the actions of NPC's and mobs, controlling dialog, having random dialog that is just background, the addition of items not presently in the game like chests, the ability to have prop items, the list goes on and on and on.

Take a peak at the news item and check out the manual. I was really amazed I did not think it would be anywhere near as functional as it has turned out to be.

Kudos to you Nevrax!!!!

You are right, but it is the degree to which you can do things. The videos did nothing to show this. They scratched the surface at best in the videos.

I dont think I've seen any info about the actual maps themselves,

ie.. can you create your own? Or do you just go with a standard 4 x 8 grid and throw in some wildlife. Would be really good to be able to make canyons, caves, tunnels, little inlets in cliffs etc. As I havent seen anything about this im guessing thats not going to be available. Anyone?

It's been mentioned there will be no terrain editing for a while. Just preset maps to choose from, though quite a number of them (hundreds?) which you populate with NPC's, creatures, building, camps, trees.

What Seh says is correct. There are a load of different maps to choose from. True map editing would be upload hell but maybe they'll work on that later.

Is that like the stuff that the NPCs on RoS do when they're wandering around?

Yup. I guess the user can preset talk that happens. - tho id imagine youd have to have a fiar bit or random dialog, otherwise people may think a certin NPC is crazy muttering "Jena is great she owns everything hahah" every 30 seconds ;)

Or just muttering, Littletiger is the sexiest beast on atyz, he is the king, his word is law. You do as he says or stay one step behind him.

And then a NPC comes along, stronger then everything. Named Littletigers clone...

Okay, on a serious note.
Will the ring be EASY to handle? and how will the players be able to choose WHICH instance you want to be in? Will it be to chose in a list, or are we talking about walking into a area with all the different "scenarios" in it?
