ok i made an axe on the starter island out of good mats and it had a 83 dmg rating and was QL 20.
when i got to mainland and leveled a bit I made an axe outta so so mats and damage was 77, QL 40.
in combat my new axe did less damage, so whats the point of getting a new axe?
yes i understand that materials determine damage rating, but wtf does the QL determine?
also how do shields work, i never see a damage blocked remark in the combat log.
and finally, what does bleed do, is it broke, all it says is critters wounds are bleeding massivly, but I dont ever see any DoT damage.
I'm a little confused about weapon QL vs damage
Re: I'm a little confused about weapon QL vs damage
QL determines the base damage. Adding better materials will increase the base damage.cynannwm wrote: yes i understand that materials determine damage rating, but wtf does the QL determine?
Re: I'm a little confused about weapon QL vs damage
Bleed damage doesn't show in the system window, but creatures do bleed.
Re: I'm a little confused about weapon QL vs damage
what the heck is "base damage" ?
Re: I'm a little confused about weapon QL vs damage
A base item made with basic materials will have x for damage at a specific QL.
Damage can be raised by using better materials. ie Fine, Choice, Excellent etc. It is scaled from the amount of material you replace with fine or choice. So only using a few pieces of choice or fine will get you a nice bonus but using all choice will get you a very very nice raise.
Given this you will see that a Ql20 Choice material piece of gear will have better stats than a Ql40 Basic material piece.
Now for the bad news. Not all Choice materials will raise damage ... some are for raising speed and have a lower damage rating than basic. Some are for high damage and low speed. And there is still the nice ones that raise both ...

Re: I'm a little confused about weapon QL vs damage
Shields add to your overall defense, which causes you to take less damage

Right.ok thnks, now just to make sure i got this..if my melee skill is 30 and i use a QL 40 i dont get the full damage right?
Check your weapon's info (right click) and look at both "damage" and "max damage" values
Once you reached level 40 melee your damage value will be equal to your max damage value, you will need to change weapon if you want to hit harder (can't exceed max damage more than twice the amount with 'increase damage' bricks)
That means it's pointless using a q30 weap at level 45 for example, but it's a good idea to take a q50 weap when you reach 41
Re: I'm a little confused about weapon QL vs damage
addintional: as soon as you have reached your weoaponlvl maxdmg even higher incr. damage etc won´t raise your damage output. So usind a Q20 Weapon with Dmg Incr. 2 will bring the same results as using the same weapon with DmgIncr 4
The Weapon Level also determines what the maximum possible bdase damage of that weapon will be.
Example: a QL60 Pike will have a maximum base damage of 172. QL70 192, QL80 212 etc. etc. etc.

Also note the speical abilities you are using. An increase damage 3 works with weapons up to Q35, so if you are using a Q40 weapon, you won't get the full benefit of that skill until you reach a higher level.weiseman wrote:Right.
