Is there a guide to operating a guild?

Post by lfnotter »

Last night I set up a guild so that our little group of Horizons players could stay in touch while we explore Ryzom & wait to see what's going to happen with the game and its new owners. I've been looking through the forums, but other than the thread on what commands are useful for guilds in Ryzom, I have not found a lot of information on actually running a guild properly.

I've gathered that a guild hall needs to be established; how does one go about that?

Is there a setting to display other characters' guild affiliations?

I expect that this guild will be a temporary stop for most members, but for those who decide not to move on, what actions or activities would be best for a brand-new guild to get involved with?

Thanks!

If I remember right there maybe a little text somewhere in the Ryzom manualon guilds, can't quite remember how useful it is but maybe worth a look.
Websites on the guild list might also give you some ideas.

Guild halls are some buildings found in the capital cities with a guild caretaker outside, same as apartment caretakers where you'll be able to buy some space. :)

As for the running of a guild in Ryzom, thankfully the community in general is great as you've likely found out but it still pays to take things slow and not go hunting down any tom, dick or harry to increase numbers. Quality over quantity and all that is what makes a guild. You'll likely be spending most of your time in game with these people after all. :) Perhaps setup some guidelines/rules.

You can do pretty much anything together as a group, I find trekking to places you couldn't get to on your own fun, or hunting interesting mobs/bosses you couldn't solo just a couple of cool things to do. Theres alot to see and do on Atys.
Also don't get too swallowed up in your own guild, theres plenty of other people/guilds you can befriend who'll no doubt give you advice and help you out. :)

Take care and feel free to ask me questions in game if you want.

Open up the config (default 'u' iirc) Display -> In scene -> set Friends and Enemies to the same usually, there's an option for guild names and icons.

I came here as a Horizons refugee nearly two years ago now and welcome to Atys from a fellow ex-Istarian.

Guild management options here are alot simpler than HZ but it doesnt effect things really, if you got a good bunch of likeminded people around you will soon find your niche on Atys.

I missed working together as a community when I first left but once you figure how our community all fits together ,although to some extent divided by the backstory, you and your freinds will find just about everyone willing to help. We are pretty used to refugee homeless Homins arriving just at the minute whether it be Istaria, ta-toon? or other more un-mentionable places, the great swarming scattered us all far and wide for sure ;)
