Kami, Karavan or Neutral?

Post by remyt »

I'am finishing up all the quest on the trial isle atm so i can move over to the mainland.

But i have one question, got this info box up that told me that later i i'll have to choose side between kami or karavan or stay neutral, so that why i've come here to ask you ppl what the benefits are of choosing the other side over the other? and do you gain anything by staying neutral?

If your scared of a fight, wanna win by numbers and not up for a challenge: Karavan

If you want a friendly bunch, not scared of a good fight and go on the side that needs you atm: Kami

If you dont wanna get involved in politics just yet or never: Neutral

While it won't try to tell you which side to choose, you might find this guide useful :)

For some more vocal opinions on things, this thread might help too.

And to save DT the trouble of saying it, I recommend you try to find out about each side by their actions ingame and don't just rely on the propaganda fights on the forums ;)

I beg to differ on this point. Neutrals are very political. It takes quite a bit of finesse to prove to your friends on either side of the faction war that you are really neutral and will help them in all the ways that you can that won't voilate your neutral stance. This may more true for an officer level and up in a neutral guild, but each member of a neutral guild feels the affects. We have to weigh whether helping our friends will look poorly to our other friends. Neutral may be the most political path to take.

Following a faction blindly is easy. Treading the neutral waters between the two is rather challenging.

I think everyone should read the words of Jena and Ma-Duk. They are the gods of the Karavan and Kami.

Basically, Jena says we are created in her image and she loves us for what we are. Ma-Duk wishes to transform us until we are a part of him and cease to exist as individuals.

Basically, the Kami are more intune with nature, and wish to preserve Atys at all costs..

While the Karavan are more technological, and wish to exploit Atys for the betterment of Homins...or something like that.

I agree with you, but the way the mechanics are in SoR... it isn't exactly easy to "blindly follow" either as the game doesn't make it easy. When someone claiming to be following a faction attacks others in their faction and the game does not lower their fame greatly as it should... it kind of makes it hard to sometimes see who is what. One can gain faction fame killing an enemy to their faction, but lose no fame when they attack their own. The same should apply for those of us that have sworn allegiance based on race, but it doesn't either.

You figure out how easy it is to say anyone playing a faction is easy... Neutral is the hardest and commendable if able to maintain. Playing as the game was written is equally challenging as the game mechanics do not fit into the roles we may choose to play faction/race wise either.

Nope, no faction points to gain or lose anymore.

So instructing their followers to rape Aelius Dunes, Olkern Lakes, and Almati Woods of their resources was "preserving Atys at all costs"? Sounds more like following their own desire for power at all costs. ;)

I agree with what Dreganna said. Neutrality has many versions, and complex politics.

That said, there is no absolute good vs. evil, so faction choice has more to do with personal belief than anything. There are also no game-mechanics benefits to choosing any particular side, except that Kamists and Karavaneers can use teleports in Prime Roots and 250 zones. There's a Karavan and a Kami teleport in each region; Karavaneers can only use Karavan teleports, and Kamists can only use Kami teleports. Neutrals can use some of both, and although they can't directly use PR and 250-zone teleports, there are usable teleports near enough to several of those regions. So Karavaneers and Kamists having direct access to PR and 250-zones isn't a real benefit.
