Kami or Karavan

Post by chud1 »

Despite reading the storyline, could anyone give myself and possibly a few others of any advantages each would give
i like the karavan technology and the presevation aspects of the world the kami offer however since the beggining a have always leant towards joing the Karavan.
do we get glimses into their technology? will they in the future share some of the knowledge with their followers?
are there any subtle differences or is just for names sake?

cheers

p.s what can i do with the goo i have collected?

Well, Kami and karavan do give us glimpses of their Creations with the Outpost Drills and the Temples.
In the Future, who knows...

the karavan are just going to kill off our planet to fix up their own planet, promising us to bring us there... which they won't, because they can't... same reason why they have to wear those suits on our planet... and they won't give you much technology...
that's why you should join kami, they learnt us magic ^^

Once upon a time I would have said that the Kami were here to protect the planet while the Karavan just wanted to strip mine it.

That all changed when they started their 'war' (looks around for Jena again. ;) ). The Kami are now just as bad as the Karavan. They told us to go to the old lands and mine them dry to build their temples. They gave us drills to bore deep into the planet and strip out its resources.

In my heart I want to be Kami but now I trust neither side because the Kami have shown themselves to be hypocrites.

Gamewise you gain no real current advantage from following either faction, other than maybe the chance to win more OP battles. ;)

the karavan, yes. the kami ones fix it
Homins!
The Karavan are once again threatening Atys! Fortunately, Ma-Duk knows how to counteract their harmful actions.
Several decades ago, the Karavan discovered special nodes under the Crust. Those special places have been blessed by Ma-Duk and have become very important for Atys’ equilibrium. The Karavan, in their foolish thirst for materials, dug so deeply that they disturbed the Kami's great masterwork.
Unfortunately the followers of the Karavan are too numerous currently for us to claim every nexus. We ought to have them understand they are deceiving themselves and following a false-goddess, the Night’s Empress. Ma-Duk knows how huge this task is, so she decided to help you balance the Karavan’s disastrous excavation like she did fifty years ago.
The Kamis will offer you tree-bores; these plants will grow on a nexus, and plunge their roots deep in the Crust to repair the damage done to Atys' equilibrium. Moreover, those tree-bores will excavate some materials without harming the Bark, so you can benefit from them.
Homins! Seize this opportunity! These special nodes are under the fallen outposts that you have seen everywhere on Atys. But the Karavan won’t be their only enemies to claim those: the Marauders are planning to take outposts as well, for some unknown, dark purpose. They are Ma-Duk’s enemies, for they perform experiments on the Goo and will sooner or later cause a great disaster for all Atys’ life.
May Ma-Duk bless you all, and lead you on the way to the Kamic age.

Have any seen the vessels the karavan have floating around? They seem to be pretty well worn out to me. Check the fungus growing on some, and the sparks and smoke ;)

I am fairly sure if they don't get some of their mates to come to Atys, they will never be able to take any homins with them anywhere. After all, their ships are made of metal, and I've haven't come across any ore on Atys. So, how can they ever hope to repair their ships? I think the poor karavan are stranded on Atys and are relying on the homins to support them for their survival.

Don't forget the neutral path, whatever reason you take it.
Both factions lie to us, both have things they hide from us. The Kammi are hypocritical and strange, the Karavan are expansionist and sponser unethical tribes and push the militaristic expansion of their proxy state, Matis.

Neutrality encompasses a lot, including more moderate members of the religions, and it requires a little extra hard work and sacrifice but, generally, it places homin future and homin destiny in homin hands, rather than that of the 'gods'.

Wow, Grim! I've always disliked the neutral factions in any game as they tend to dilute the factional conflict. I think this is the first time I've gotten a taste of the neutral rationale and it holds up very nicely. Good job. :)

Well mate you have read the kami side and here goes the kara one:

Lorewise don't matter that much because in game the sides are supposed to be kinda equal. They both mine, both gather crystals, both have special faction items (weapons, tools, armor, shields, picks etc) And yes Kara ones look more technological.

However that's about it.

What you get in game is the community which consists of same nice people no matter kara, kami or neutral and the faction devision of players. The Karavan players have a strong numerous, well organised alliance of extremely devoted players. They believe in unity under Jena's light and thereforе show up more often at outpost fights to help each other and hense they possess far more outposts all in all. The karavaneers call in sick at work, stay up until 3am at night and get up again at 6 for the faction events. This influences the numbers and makes them look "stronger". The Karavan also do share a lot among themselves. So xp catalisers, weapons or armor and even op mats is not a problem to get if you are kara... Karavan also help neutral guilds and even some kami guilds without outposts.

The kami on the other hand have only some zealot guilds that do care about the faction war. The majority doesn't show up, doesn't care that much and is rather individualistic. The Kami zealots are trying hard to pull the kami faction together but so far their success is not as great as they would like. And I haven't heard about too much charity among them. Rather people bickering about how come noone gives nothing.

That is the differense in game mate.

And lore.. lore is just a nice story.. It's the people who make the game.

Out of lore or anything, just plain game mechanics: you don't get any technical advantage if you go karavan and you won't get any magical advance for going kami. If you don't go either instead you will lose some teleport spots, but ... you won't need them at all - at least a month after you join the mainland.

Depending on your race you will have to make more or less fame points through repetitive missions (go kill innocent tribes out in the wild) if you go the pre-ordered faction for your race or if you chose to not follow a majority and go kami being matis or karavan being zorai.

In game, Arispotle only: if you prefer being the underdog go kami, if you prefer to be the winning majority class go karavan.

In lore: There is no possible objective advice. Each of us has his personal story and there are arguments for each of the 15 or more political flavours. Each of us is inside one of these so question our words and see not if they are true but if they are fit to you.

At the start I advice reading the story and begining to think a possible scenario in which you feel comfortable, a scenario of your own, your own game. Ryzom is open ended, you can still be a Cuzan and rule the world.
