Race and faction

Post by thebluer »

I played a Fyros on the newbie island (to Melee 42, Off 35, Def 31), entered the mainland last evening and realized Fyros are meant to join Kami more than the Karawan.

Now I wonder:
How tough is it for a Fyros to join the Karawan?
Will that take longer than raising a new Character?
Do Karawanserai Guilds usually accept Fyros?
Will I get problems on Fyros territory or maybe even elsewhere joining the Karawan?

Thx in advance,
Marten

Edit: one more thing: how many % join the Karawan?
I hope not the majoriy :)

the majority, things are imbalanced at the moment due to numbers and also lack of interest in PvP from a lot of existing kami players. In fact there arent many kami players they instead stay neutral.

don't go to the dark side, stick with your kami roots young homin :)

I think the fact that the majoriy are Karawanserai could be reason enough to join the Kami. Although I'm not much of a PvP I still wanna be on the weaker side :)

Many like Rushin will have you believe there are more Karavan followers, this MAY be true in spirit but not execution. Most of the Kami call themselves "neutral" and attack Karavan ONLY. Judge for yourself which side that puts them on.

Things are fairly balanced overall, that is why it is stagnant. The dev's caved and took away faction/race/fame really mattering so we have many classes, none good for a storyline. As the story isn't moving, it's easy to keep it this way.

Dont listen to vguerin on this issue! He's a karavaner!! He wants to steal your character's soul with one of those karavaner ray guns!

The Kami are the only true reality on Atys.! Is it karavan that reaches out and slaps down those who harm the worldtree when harvesting too harsly? NO!! It is the kami!

Karavaners are "travelers". They are con artists! Only the feeble and weak of mind have fallen for their baubles and shiny things!

You are Fyros! You were born from and amongst those that follow the Kami! Will you betray them all!?!
Are you so frightened as to hide behind this "neutrality"?

You are Fyros! Fyros means strenght of arms and will!

IC: The Karavan are our homin cousins from the stars! Just look at them and look at your compass. The Karavan look just like all other homins and the Kamis like other creatures. The Kamis are aliens that seek to enslave your soul and transform you into a Kami. Already Zorai have lost the ability to kiss like other homins. What will they lose next?

<points and yells!!> Evil nasty karavaner!!!

Why do the karavaners look like us? because they are us! Where is Jena? She is a figment of their manipulation! The karavaner demand of you your goods and efforts, but what do they give you in return!?! Tricks, gadgets! Where is their Jena? "oh, um, she's comming! yeah, that's the ticket! she'll be here, soon!" "But when?" you might ask. "Well, once we've robbed you of everything of value and poisoned your planet with the goo that spreads from our machines! you silly slaves!" would be their reply if they were honorable creatures.

The Kami are foriegn? simple beasts? Who is it that lashes out with death for those that harm our world? It is the Kami!!!
Transgress against them at your own perile!!

Since the others already got here, I'll just give a factual answer to your questions in order ;) Although it is about a Matisian joining the Kamist cause, you might also find this thread useful

How tough is it for a Fyros to join the Karawan? // Will that take longer than raising a new Character? Because Fyros start with negative karavan fame, it will of course take longer to become karavan aligned (at +30 fame) but there is no reason not to do it if that's what you want, and there are plenty of people who will be more than happy to help you do it as fast as you like :)

Do Karawanserai Guilds usually accept Fyros? Of course; very few guilds descriminate on grounds of race - due to the way guild alignments work, each guild can either be Kami, Neutral, or Karavan aligned as well as a racial alignment (see the other thread I linked to above for explanations on what this means) and will usually only pick their guildies based on those factors. Usually Karavan guilds (thought I don't know enough about enough of the tryker ones to comment) will happily accept anyone as long as they fit in with the guild and follow the Karavan way.

Will I get problems on Fyros territory or maybe even elsewhere joining the Karawan? The effect of becoming karavan will affect which TPs you can buy... Fyros lands are unique in that all of their towns are in different zones, which means there is a Karavan TP next to them all (whether or not you'll be able to use these after spires come out is another matter that I won't complicate things with). In other lands you may have to walk further from a TP to get to where you want to be, or yuo may not have to walk as far, but the only places you cannot go as a karavan are the two Kami temples - one near Pyr and one near Zora. both of these are in such a location that it won't impede your day-to-day life. :)

Well you can see what an issue this is for some people... personally what other people choose isn't what makes my decision - I know some people like to play the underdog, but I choose the side that is right for me, not the one people tell me to choose ;) Good luck in your choice and I hope its the right one for you :D

Oops, old news, as Jelathnia would tell you.

Kamis have no qualms about suspending their concern for Atys when their self-interest becomes greater...

Youngins who don't remember, thinking they know everything... *mumble, grumble, mutter, sigh*

Anyway, the only difficulty a Fyros or Zorai would have in becoming Karavaneer is that they start with -20 Karavan fame. Easiest way to fix that is to get "kill stuff" tasks from the Karavan that hang around south of Pyr. Do those tasks at least once every day (there's a 2hr delay before you can retake a mission, IIRC), and within a week or two you'll be at positive Karavan fame. Then, you have to get to +30...which should be easier than working up negative fame. I'd guess another couple weeks, if you keep doing a few Karavan missions at least once per day. Once you have +30, you'd do the Karavan faction allegiance rite, which -I think- involves visiting a Karavan temple. For that you might have to travel to the forest.
