hmm each patch things get a bit more unstable...

Post by tekkor »

Let me start off by saying I have been really enjoying the game so far but it is getting some serious issues that dont seem to be getting fixed but actually getting worse with each patch they do.

I have 2 RL friends playing the game with me. I also play the game on 2 computers here at my house (a desktop in my office and a wireless laptop I play in living room). As of the patching they did last night and today I now cant keep the game from locking up on my laptop.....I got on earlier for about 5 min then it locked up. Then 3 times since then I tried getting back in the game and each time it would drop me into game and before I could even take a step the game froze my computer.

My 2 friends....both of them had the game lock up repeadtly tonight. Never able to play more then about 5-10 minutes. One of them the screen would just go black and lockup. We all have the latest drivers and directx. We have no issues with other games.

We all play CoH with no problems, have played FFXI in last month with no problems like this. We have been playing much more advanced games like Doom 3 and Sims 2 as far as hardware requirements. All these games work fine on all the computers.

3 out of 4 computers now cannot run the game more then 10 minutes without crashing and locking up.

This doesnt even get into the side issue of lag off and on every 3-4 minutes even when the game is running.

To be brutally honest I got the game last Tuesday and Tuesday thru Thursday the game actually ran very well.....once they patched the server that Friday afternoon everything has been downhill since then.

I know I alot of people are complaining but to be honest....Im starting to see it now. Again...I have 2 friends who now cannot even play the game and I can only seem to play it on one of my 2 computers and even on that one Im subjected to lag that just seems to not be improving at all.

Im not whining....Im pointing out that so far Nevrax out the gate does not seem to have a handle on patching the game and getting "game stopping" issues resolved. In fact it seems more are being caused with each patch.

This needs to be addressed quickly.

I will post one more note on this...... all of the computers have ATI cards. It is obvious there is some serious issues with ATI and this game.

Nevrax... this should be your number one priority right now....tons of people are not even able to play the game because of it.

Very true. I realize you have some sort of marketing deal with Nvidia, but the HUGE, GAMEBREAKING, GLARING incompatibilities with ATI cards are just ridiculous. Forget adding flippin content... you guys over at Nevrax should still be working on the horde of bugs and errors that you didn't catch in the beta.

I mean. I thought this game was a premature birth. For a lot of people, it's almost stillborn. -_-

Can we get any sort of response from the devs regarding the serious ATI incompatabilities?

For more information:

Computers #1: Has radeon 9000 with latest drivers from ATI and latest DirectX. This computer will sometimes make it into game then within 5-10 minutes will either freeze or the screen will go black and freeze.

Computer #2: Has Radeon 9200 with latest drivers and DirectX. Sometimes freezes on loading screen....sometimes freezes on game screen after 5-10 minutes of play and just locks up the computer requiring a shutdown.

Computer #3: Laptop with Radeon Mobility 9200. Basically same as above. Sometimes freezes on loading screen....sometimes freezes on game screen after 5-10 minutes of play and just locks up the computer requiring a shutdown.

Computer #4: Has Radeon 9800 with latest drivers and DirectX. this computer has the most success running but still has occasional "lockups" due to losing connection to server somehow.

For the record, it is not all ATI cards that are having problems. I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and I have not had a single problem with lockups or crashes. The game plays flawlessly on my machine. I have heard that some people have been having problems with older ATI cards.

I do agree that the lag problem seemed to start last Friday as many other people have posted. Last night after the patch, it seemed much better but I didn't play long enough to get a real good feel for whether its fixed or not. Still massive lag about the same time every night I have played lately (between 1:00 and 1:30 AM eastern). This is usally followed by the "Shard will be shutting down in 5 minutes" message.

I'm not trying to detract from your issue. It totally sucks when you are paying for a game that you can't play but I thought it was worth mentioning that some ATI cards are working just fine.

Tekkor, you posted while I was writing my post. It looks like the machines that are having the most problems have slightly older ATI cards (pre 9700). Have you tried OpenGL mode for these machines? Some people have had better luck with OpenGL on older ATI cards. Also, does your disconnect problem always happen after about the same amount of time in game? My friend had a problem with frequent disconnects and updating the firmware on his broadband router solved his problem. I think he has a Linksys.

Well Im sitting here right now on my desktop and firing up my laptop....Ill give it a try and see if it makes any difference. The last 4 times I tried to get inot the game with the laptop it has locked up.

One note on this whole deal though...... I played the game on this laptop Thursday and last Friday for several hours without a whole lot of problems. Like I said it seems things just keep getting worse and worse...anyway...trying a few more things on laptop right now.

After changing the settings in the configuration setup to Open GL I was able to log into the game seemingly ok on my laptop. For the record....

My laptop is:

Compaq X1000
Centrino 1.5mhz
1 gig of ddr ram
Radeon Mobility 9200
Running on a wireless 2.4 ghz G connection all Linksys

I just set a timer to see how long I can run before something goes wrong....but right this second Open GL seemed to for some reason at least get into game ok.

Of course the game warned me also on startup that I should run in D3D....but I said no and went on with Open GL.

I have read elsewhere that the problem with ATI cards is with the older Radeons (I have a 9800 xt and it runs fine). Apparently it has something to do with the Directx9 and Direct3d api's, so switching to OpenGl mode has solved the problem for many... others however (like poor Mez) are still getting lock ups and it certianly needs to be addressed. This coding games for specific cards thing is getting way out of hand....
