Not a good start....

Post by al9097 »

Hello,
I had this game recommended to me as a MMO that i might finally like, thought i'd take advantage of the free trial. So today i download the game and sign meself up, and BAM! what a slap in the face to find i can't connect.

It appears the severs crashed.... i gotta ask, does this happen often?

And while i'm here can anyone give me any clue on how many british people play this game?
Just so i know i don't have to work my time with another time zone to see people.

Well, don't consider it a Slap in the face. It's nothing personal, as it doesn't just affect You. It's affecting All players ;)

I don't have the link to Klients (lil help someone?) but it's an irc-type chat prog for you to be in direct contact with GM/senior GMs so you can be filled in on what troubles are going on with the game/servers/etc.

As for the British time zone players, I know we have at least 2 in our guild, but some guilds consist more of EU time zone players. Off the top of my head, I think Evolution and TheNewEmpire have a lot of EU based members.

Give it an honest try. And don't let first impressions decide whether you stay or go. A lot of current players were in your shoes when we started. But now, we consider Ryzom our virtual home. Good luck with it and I hope you will decide to stay!

Does it happen often? Well I've been here for about 7 months now and no, it hasn't really been like this at all during that time span (a server reboot once in a great while or something yes, but this is the first time I've seen this amount of unexpected down time).

As for the Brits, there's a good number of them yes. ;)

Well, they did just patch the servers last week, 4 days downtime. Bound to be some major bugs cropping up after a while.

I'm sure they'll get it fixed ASAP as every day it's down is a day they don't get paid :D

Thanks for the replies,

I only consider it a slap in the face since i have recently been wanting a 'good' MMO, but any i've read about or played have left my faith in MMORPGs wavering , after asking around, finally a skillbased game again(rather than levels), it just left a sort of hopeless looking situation.
I'm very happy to hear that it isn't a regular occerance and i can absorb myself in the game without the threat of constant downtime :)

The klients sound like a good little addition though i'll wait to play the game alittle before i dabble in them.

<dbritt> Ryzom law---"Server will only go down at the most inconvieniant time that the most people can die at once"
<telmaur> Its the spirit of Windermeer seeking revenge!
<doyleboy> its the inheirant nature of inanimate objects to undermind humanity

:D

It certainly isn't normal, though. Very rare in the thirteen months I've been playing. It's funny to watch the flood of people into Klients the moment the server goes down, though. :p And then they go out just as fast when it comes back up. Whichever CSR is residing in Klients must've kicked the server because they were lonely...

Hi,

To the original poster-

I too am looking for a new MMO. I have played 3 years of SWG and just recently WoW.
As for SWG, well, that game will never be the same again. I just have to live up to the fact that that game will neve rever be great or the same as it once was. For WoW, its a great game and all but its a quest based game and im not a big fan of questing.

Since playing Ryzom, all i have got to say is "Wow" (no Pun intended).
The game is great and the community is awesome. Even the GM are nice and polite and show concern for you if your having trouble in game.

As for the server been down again, well, i just started playing right after the NPE so i can understand if theres afew bug lingering around.

Other than that, i think im hooked on this game. Theres ALOT to learn, and some of it can be con fusing at times so just ask away in Universe chat.

My SWG are now cancelled and ill be subscribing to this. As for WoW, ill just use that game to chat to my Wife's brother :)

Ive played on and of for a loong time, and other than the first few weeks of launch, this is the first time ive seen the servers go down for any length of time.

As for the other question, i am English, and i know many others who are.
You will also find a lot of early east coasters who play in the morning and work afternoons/evenings are playing in our time slot.
Beforeyou join a guild ask about the online times and populations in your timeslot, there will be a few out there that will be active when you want
