Petition for modification of the new tiral offer, Please Vote!

Post by sesune »

Hey guys, and nevrax.

As you know there has been a discussion going on about this here on the following thread http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23482

Ok what purpose is the current trial? its not even the trial of the game. I said it before and I shall repeat it again:
sesune wrote: Oh I fully agree. The unlimited play time in RoS is good as players can stay as long as they need until they are confident and start paying only when they are ready. But nevrax really should give the players a seven day trial from the moment the user arrives on the mainlands. I understand the NPE and all its benefits BUT a trial should show what the game really has - that are the mainlands. Be sensible devs, you do want good flow of subscribers or not? Think it over.

In my case I can simply charge it on my CC to test the mainlands out and let my dad take care of it charge. But remember not everyone can throw around money like that - 15$ is not a cheap amount, its affordable but yet not worth it for the live content you provide atm. - maybe 15$ is ok after R2 but for now please don't pressure potential customers *sigh*

We should voice our opinions on this, as a trial should really be a trail of the real areas of the game.
You see the new trial offer is not a trial at all but a demonstration of what SoR is - that too different from the actual "feel" from mainlands - personally I am surprised at you nevrax this looks more like a desperate attempt to get more members than looking at the success of the game. In reality it should be a trial of the actual game.

Personally I am totally ok with this - and I intent to subscribe a year account to play along with my cousin. But please understand that several others may feel cheated (I shall start a separate topic on that, which may give nevrax some valuable information). *^^*

Anyhow please vote!

I think it would be a good idea to have a 7-day trial on the mainlands, but i can see why the havent done it.

Because of the new 'universe' channel the players who are not paying still have contact with the mainland, giveing them (and i think this is what the devs are hopeing for) enough curiosity to at least pay for one month on the mainland, and because ryzom is such a great game, and the non paying player has spent so much time understanding the game to not give up just becasue he/she gets lost in pyr...

I think that by not allowing the non paying players to get to the mainlands is a very good idea. all to often i have seen newbies come straight to the mainland, feel lost, feel weak and have no one to team with. the untimately leave the game without giving it a shot. by allowing RoS to be free its very likely that most players who leave the isle will be at level 20-30. And level 20 heal can help a level 50 melee....

Anyways just some rambilings... ;)

I voted no. Because I think the newbie island is good enough for players to make an informed decission.

I've met a few players running around the capitals complaining about lack of content. And if they aren't even willing to accept that Ryzom tries to be different from most mmo's, what's the point? My thoughts on this are that the players should be able to make a decission as to if they like it or not, based on what they experience on the newbie island. It's not the mainland true, but the skills you get to use are still the same. And I believe the main factor making someone stay or leave the game are, do they make good friends here? Who would stay for the long haul without great friends?

I also considered that the PR has been for the most part extremely low for this game. It has been promoted by increasing success by word of mouth from the players themselves. And this I am starting to feel is a good thing. Maybe even why we have managed to keep the community as friendly as it is ;)

I voted no, for much the same reasons karmelit explained so eloquently.

In my oppinion this is 1 of the best idea`s sofar from Nevrax....why?????.
Well...after recruiting more than 50+ members and spending almost every gameplay hour we have in helping and training them, even give them some of our best items, becuase they tell you they are on a paying account ( and we believe em )
it realy sucks when they suddenly vanish into thin air after a week or so.
Im willing enough to help new players to settle ingame ,but not under these circumstances.
My game time is to much valuable to me to waste it on ppl who dont tell the truth.
So if now a new player gets to the mainland i know he is a paying player, and i will be happy to spend some time with him

You have a lenient perspective of things, which is good. The trial offer wouldn't be a problem if things were equal and well established. Please understand at the moment:

The starter land RoS has almost more content than the mainlands.

Sure the mainlands has several continents, and even Prime Roots, outposts and faction battles and storyline events. But are the more vicious Goo creatures re-introduced? and the missions are hardly of any quality compared to the structured new ones on the RoS.

When a players pays to get to mainland they should get all that they experienced in the RoS but only better and at the moment there is a huge difference. Its not the case, some players may feel cheated, outraged by what you said 'lack of content'. What I'm asking is: should a potential customer be pressured like this?

Also consider long time veteran players, they might just want to check out what has changed before they re-subscribe their old accounts. But they now have to subscribe to even get to mainland there by further hindering their decision to comeback.

What I'm saying is I'm not at all against this trial offer, in-fact I love what nevrax is doing. Even more impressed at their progress. What I'm saying is the mainlands should provide everything that RoS does but should only bigger and better. If nevrax does that then this offer is perfect

Ahh now you proved me wrong *blush*

Yes when it comes to guild and recruitments this offer is just wonderful. And now that you mention it, it does seem like a best way to keep out players that have less interest on the game. But still my above post still stands. Right now what they are offering is a live demo and not a trial of the manlands :)

My thoughts right now with the NPE: I'm not sure. I mean its populated atm, but later when old players arent trying it I think it would be benefical to see the mainland. I know that when I started there was maybe 3-4 people max in the zorai starter so I probably wouldnt have gotten it if I hadnt seen there were more on the mainland. My only concern is later when old players arent trying out NPE and its less populated what will the new comers think if they cant get to the mainland and see that there are infact more people online.

Hiklo, it wouldn't matter. As the former newbie islands, gave no real impression of more people on the mainland. But now with the universe chat, they can "blindly" see that there is life beyond the cliffs.

Anyhow back to Sesune, you seem to be already dissecting the community and trying to change things and you're still quite new I see. But the unlimited trial none the less is still a step in the right direction whether things change or not. It gives the players a better understanding at how the game works, instead of the "sudden deserted island" feel. Not knowing what to do, too weak to do it, not familiar with your surroundings, etc.

Back when I first bought the game in stores, I was a Zorai. As people know, used to be about the lowest populated newbie island. I died so many times and got frustraited and quit. A few months later, after WoW came out and I got tired of it quickly, I gave it a try again. After rerolling and finally making it to the mainland by the skin of my teeth, a friendly homin supplied me with great armor (I still thank her to this day), guild invited me, and I have been here since. Over a year now.

So now that players are bonding and having a great time, I see it as a great step. Not to mention a few influx of players. But it is a trial of the game none the less. Its your first part of the game. Ranger "nation", you could call it, so it should have a different feeling, as does each mainland country. But over all, they all have the same. Missions, Karavan, Kami, trainers, merchants, stables, guilds, arena, PvP, skills... what's new besides "revamped missions" really? That, I ask you, Sesune and community.

There's still the issue of false advertising.

Please, just run a black brush across that "UNLIMITED FREE TRIAL" bit...just one little modification to an image and you remove the impression of false advertising...
