3rd Letter to Fairhaven

Post by danolt »

The most important event since the Exodus is upon us. The election of our new governor has immense ramifications. For most it is quietly slipping by, unnoticed, a non concern. How many voters even bothered to learn the names of all the candidates, much less their beliefs? Fewer then 80 Homins requested the profiles of any one candidate at the time of the primary. This number also includes those who made multiple requests (looked at the post more then once) and those who were ineligible to vote.

We face real change. Things will never be the same. There are consequences to our choice and only a handful care. How many votes were bought and paid for by other Homins (alts). It happened, we all know it did. If enough of us vote it is a wash, it won't matter in the overall scheme of our daily lives. If we do not participate we will be governed by the will of a few and those who bought votes do not care about our opinion.

We have allowed the candidates to skip the hard questions. They debate the price of ale, while our previous governors' assassin and motives are still a mystery. The days of arguing over alcohol taffifs, official songs and official armor should be over. We face real problems, real danger.

Our alliance with the Matis is officially in place, but the Matis people have grown weary of our ways, will they answer a call for aid? The Karavan have been strongly rebuked with the failure of their endorsed candidate to even make the run off. How long can we take thier support for granted? Political pressures will eventually force the countries and factions to war and finally, there is the Kitin. What are the proposed solutions to these problems? Is there a plan of action, a policy? Is there even rhetoric?

As individuals we Trykers are staunch allies, as a race we are undependable and chaotic. In a majority of the Homin battles there is a fairly even split of Trykers on either side. That is not a criticism or a judgment, it is an observation.

We as a race are opinionated, passionate and free spirited. We love our freedom and democracy, yet so few are fully participating. If we are not willing to be a participant in our own government, our own future, how much support can our allies expect?

We must try to get the candidates to make written policies and plans…before they are elected! Only some of us can attend the debates, all of us can read. Take your time. Look at the candidates. Hold them accountable. Read their speeches and biography's. Look for the inconsistencies, the hidden messages. They are there and they are dark! There is so much to be worried about. The factions, the races, the guilds, your friends, yourself, we will all be effected.

The price of this election will be high, no matter who would have made the run off. I ask that you think about that price.

We will all pay it.
