hello all, another WoW refugee

Post by ischa »

i've been looking at trying SoR for about a month. I feel like I'm already addicted just because of the research. So i'm trying the 7 day trial, now that i have 7 relatively uneventfull days comming up. I'm thinking about starting a Tryker, even though I think the Zori look pretty cool. One question, can a Tryker be loyal to the Kamis? Does loyalty to one faction or the other make much difference in gameplay? I'm really excited about starting, just waiting for everything to load first. Not that the wait is all that bad, at least its given me some time to practice my bagpipes. *shrugs* Any other advice? Oh ya, and I've played WoW, but even though I haven't even come close to lvl 60 yet, i still am feeling a little bored. Get quest, kill monsters, repeat. Are things much different on here?
Thanks

Indeed they can; your faction is entirely your choice - you "just" need to get to an amount of fame where you can apply for cult membership - since the races have historical leanings a tryker will start off with negative kami and positive karavan fame, but that can be reversed easily enough :)

Or of course, you could go neutral ;) There's a lot of details which will probably follow after this post, or you will find them out for yourself, but thats the basic answer :p

By choosing either karavan or kami faction together with a citizenship will affect you fame possibilities. The civs that are friendly to your civ allows you higher fame, and vice versa (one civ will have 0 fame as max, another may have up to 100 fame pints).
Going neutral at first will on the other hand give you a possibility to gain up to 50 fame points for all civilisations (100 fame points are max).
Should you choose later to change allegiance or citizenship, it can be done but can drastically change your fame.

Why would anyone care about fame? Positive fame will be needed for some missions. There are special missions called rites that gives you rewards when completed. Rites will also appear in your encyclopedia, and some add lore to your knowledge (doesn't have a practical application).

It may sound a bit confusing, but you will get it as soon as you start doing missions and see how they affect your fame

well, i'm not sure what to do. I installed it, but then it froze and i had to disconnect my computer. after turning it back on, the ryzom instalation icon was on my desktop, so i just clicked it and installed. I think all the data is there, except now when i click on the play ryzom icon, i get the following message: can't create a window display (1024x768 32 bits). my window is set to these specifications. I'm not sure if i should just reload the game. I should have been smart enough to load the game before registering for the trial. *doh* If anyone has any advice, its welcomed. I have a windows with a pentium 4. i couldn't tell you much beyond that. WoW worked fine on my computer, except for the fact that i had to turn of norton antivirus everytime i played, but this doesn't seem to be the problem in this case. HELP!

Well, i'm not quite sure i know what all i have, but i'm pretty sure i don't have SIS, sense i have intell, so i don't think i should have the same problem as wade2539, right? I'm just reloading the game sense i had such problems the first time, then i'll try again, hopefully everything will be better this time :)

by the way, i saw on another post somewhere that they were planning on shutting down the servers for 4 days sometime this month for a patch, does anyone know when this will be? will it be in the middle of my free trial? that would be harsh

I would hope that if they did shut down the shards for 4 days, we would all get 4 days free anyway :)

You can easily make a new trial account for another 7 days tho (have to start chars afresh tho :P )
