Minimee sat at the bar in Fairhaiven talking to the barman and the others about the candidates running for the Governors seat. She sipped on some warm milk before she continued, “I must admit I am undecided. I listened to the speeches and all bring interesting points.

Leroy’s speech I found the most empty; he wants to improve bureaucracy and focus on the standardization of our crafts and military force. It is all good but not quite what we need in my opinion. I really do not see his vision for the future of the Lakelands.

Now, The Skipper, there is a man with ideas and a bright future. I liked his speech. He is an inventor and can bring forth great technology; this is evident in his speech. He also touched the subject of the Goo that is affecting our ecology. Something needs to be done to stop these rouge tribes from experimenting and using the Goo to harm others. I think he is the man that can make these changes happen. But I fear that his lack of military experience will not be wise to Govern at this time.

I think someone like Rehn Kirran would be a fine candidate. He delivered a strong speech. His view on peace, democracy and economic fairness are right on target. Not to forget his experiences against the Kitin threat. Any man with such experience can surely protect the Lakelands from any neighboring homins as well. He would be a fine candidate indeed. But I do not think most Trykers are ready to allow a Kami supporter to preside over them.

Then we have Shaly Nara who I listened speak with such passion and love for the Tryker nation. She has a purpose, I can hear it in her speech, but I get the sense there is something more or something missing rather. I think she is a strong woman and of worldly experience capable of greatness, but not quite right for the position.

If there is a woman to be elected for Governor then it should be Lady Ailan Mac’kean. She was well spoken and honest during her speech. Her background and personal relation with the late Stil Wyler and his widow Rhiana gives me reassurance that she will continue his work. After all Lady Ailan was Wyler’s advisor for 10 years. Although, her relationship with the Wyler’s may influence her votes, it is her stipulations that win my favor…”

Minimee sips on the warm milk savoring its sweet taste. “Who will you vote for and why?” she asked.

If I read Tidings' post and yours, I personally love the Skipper and Learoy just for the guts to stand among Rehn, Lady Alian and Shaly Nara. But to vote on them, even as Trykerette I shiver at that thought...

I like Rehn, he's a Tryker by heart, but I wasn't at speeches so I do not know if he was sober or not. He has a reputation you know... But he is a man of action, and has seen a lot of battles.

Lady Alian and Shaly Nara. I hardly know them. Heard of them a bit ofcourse, as they are at most official happenings in the Lake Lands, but I do not really know what they stand for.

Vote for? That is an interesting question. Who among these candidates is interested in the concerns of the common Tryker citizen? Which of these platforms reaches out past the closed circle of the status quo and the elite classes of Fair Haven. Who among these five will take council from the federated guilds, much less a concerned citizen?

This vote will only send a message to those outside the Lakelands. Do we further erode our relationship with the Matis in favor of the Fyros? Do we send a strong signal of support to the Karavan and further alienate Kami supporters? We could choose a man who can say with a straight face that he will pass a set of simple codified laws to cover every aspect of Tryker life or we can pick one who has some ideas but no vision. Finally, we can elect a man who promises peace and diplomacy and whose first promised action will be one of violence and extermination. The choices are empty, only the message matters.

No matter who it is there is no accountability, no input. Once the government takes form it is free to do what it will. None of the candidates even propose to set up a mechanism to solicit input from the common citizenry. Choose your poison it will be a long time before the established powers ask your opinion again.
