Questions on crafting

Post by mizab »

I am ex SWG player. I loved the crafting/mining/ecomny in it was funnest thing for me never really had that much intrest in fighting which was great cause never really needed to be able to fight and was a very succesful merchant in SWG. So here is my list of questions I am wanting to know about if could help.

1. Is combat needed as well to be a crafter like do I have to kill my own things or go adventure in dangerous lands where would needed combat skills. If yes could I just buy stuff or would that just be too costly?

2. How easy is it for new crafters to become succesful in current econmy? Is it pretty much already dominated or is there still room?

3 How in demand are crafters to players and guilds?

4 How do you sell your goods in game

Thanks so much for any help or any other advice suggestions about being a crafter could offer. Will be playing soon. =)

Hello! Welcome to Atys ;)

Lots of SWG refugees here, try talking to Faa or the other members of Team Spirit if you are looking for a common history ;)

Hmm, it _is_ possible to dig, craft and trade without combat skills, but for many of the best ingredients you may need to dig in very dangerous areas, or even hunt boss creatures for their erm... body parts.

Hrm, difficult question. From what I have seen (and I am not a major crafter, but I know a few), if you are dedicated enough to "grind" craft and get some levels in it, to experiment with the plans and ingredients and make some good recipes then it's very possible to make a place for yourself. I don't think _any_ craft skill is overpopulated at the moment. Be aware that a lot of people look for top level crafters, so they get the maximum chance of success when they are supplying the rare materials or whatever.

Still, I know most guilds are always happy to have another crafter. Check out the forums to get an idea of who the guilds are, or ask questions in game. I recommend you take the time to find out a bit before accepting the first invite that comes, some guilds are recruiting quite steadily ;)

See above ;)

2 main ways. You can sell them to NPC merchants with the option to be resold to other players, or just to get removed. This is the usual way of selling off "practice" equipment that didnt turn out so good. The better stuff can be sold off with the resell option.

The very best stuff, using rare materials etc, is often auctioned on the Bazaar forum.

Find a guild you can get on with ;) Most guilds are supportive towards harvester/crafters. Take your time to look at the beauty of Atys. Experiment with different combinations of material types and qualities. Enjoy yourself in game, it's what we are all here for!

I'd like to offer a slightly more enthusiastic reply coming rushin who is and always will be a digger and crafter first and foremost

yes and no but mostly no. You can make very nice things solely from dug materials. the best material's come from the prime roots which is an underground eco-system. It's extremely dangerous but the only skill's you need to survive there are an ability to sneak and spot incoming aggro. pr diggers do not fight they dig :-)

to make uber (max speed weapons, +3 parry armor) stuff you will need boss/named mats in addition to supreme dug mats. These you will need to fight, but none of them can be soloed so its a guild/group activity - if you are in a guild then boss hunts will surely be going on so if you're a good crafter it's likely you can put in orders for mats.

There is plenty of room for more
mizab wrote:3 How in demand are crafters to players and guilds?
In Ryzom all items decay and cannot be repaired and everything (to all intents and purposes) is player made so there is always a demand. There will be a different level of demand depending on what you decide to craft - for example players go through jewels at an alarming rate, but a set of heavy armor can last 6 months or more.

Despite what you might hear the ingame merchants work pretty well, for exceptional items players tend to use the bazaar forum here, these days i get a lot of my orders by ingame mail

Welcome to Atys! *huggles*

Crafters are always useful, its often the case that the higher level crafters have their hands full feeding the high level players with goods.

With an ever growing community theres always more crafters needed at every level to keep up with demand. Remember all the good items are player made, and all items degrade over time :)
