kinda a deep Q&A question

Post by bgraz »

seems to me that the older players that are the mark of this "mature" community are starting to drift off into seperate groups and there seems to be a lot of arguing and hate brewing both IG and in the forums, so to whoever can answer this: Was it intended to get the community fighting amongst themselves the way they are? OP came into the picture and it seems that they caused such an uproar that its driving old players away. If it wasn't intended to be the way it is now, can anything be done to make OP fights GvG only?

I know that could only spark new problems such as mega-guilds, But i'm sooo close to unsubscribing that i just want some sort of bright outlook to sway me into staying. I like the PvP aspect we have now, but i really feel that FvF, GvG and PvP are all seperate fights, and should have their own place to be fought, and if a guild owns an OP..then only another guild should be able to challenge that..not an unstoppable force(faction or huge alliance) that governs who can keep an OP and who can't...if its a single guild that has the power to do so..then they deserve to have that power..untill they are challenged.

Agree
Martl wrote: Only strong guilds can hold these OPs. that sort of creates a 2-class guild system, with 2 classes of players. It also creates desire, some might call it even greed. Thus (for example) a fast expanding guild, as PF is, i am told, has the desire to get more OPs. I don't see GvG status for OPs will change anything in that.
Rather the opposite; being things as they are now, a smaller or not PvP-inclined guild still has the chance to defend their OP with the help of allies.
I kinda liked the idea of small guilds also having a place in that game; before OPs, being in a small guild had next to no disadvantages

Small/Weak Guilds dont stand a chance against Big/Powerfull Guilds thats true but if they made the rules such that those Guilds wernt all competing in the same area (for the same Outposts) that problem goes away

You could do this through a Guild Ladder type system with a few rules-

------------------
Guilds are limited to only owning one PvP type Outpost (if other types (PvE ?) where introduced they could own one/some of those but that would be covered by other rules)

Any Guild can declare on any one Outpost , an Outpost can only have one Declaration against it at any time

Outpost Battles are GvG only , no Allies allowed and Guild Members mustve been in the Guild "X" amount of days to participate (to stop ppl only joining to boost a Guild for that one Fight)
EDIT- and drop the OP Guards from this type of OP , make it real PvP

The winner of the Battle gains the Outpost , if the Winner already owned an Outpost the loser would gain that (swap positions on the Ladder) else theyd become Outpostless
------------------

Big/Powerfull Guilds will not look to be engaging Small/Weak Guilds holding lower Outposts , so a Ladder will form naturaly. The Big/Powerfull Guilds would hold the top Outposts but then thats only fair :)

Over the coarse of time Big/Powerfull Guilds will Fall/Fade-away and the Small/Weak Guilds will grow stronger and take their place

lol did I leave any holes in the rules ?

Reason: Reminded by Blaahs post elsewhere ,stating imbalance caused by OP Guards
Zoraï : Master Desert/Forest/Jungle/Lakeland/PR Forager , Master Light Melee Weapon Smith , Jeweler Master , 201+ in All 39 Craft Branchs , All Craft Trainer and Outpost plans -gone walkabout (solo) awaiting new content

To my mind, the way I see it as a player who did all the beta's and still went on to play the game today and will still play the game tomorrow....

A new breed of player has been brought into Ryzom with the additional content. This type of player is totally different to the players who have played as long as I have. It has also bought with it a new attitude and game style play for many who have stuck with the game as long as I have. This attitude/game style was probably always there for some but the game mechanics didnt allow it. On the other hand the new content has allowed them to develop this new gamestyle. Personally, I don't actually think it is all bad.

Old timers are bored, we/they/I crave new content. Some more than others. I doubt anyone would disagree that the biggest strength of Ryzom is it's community. The game mechanics as they are now do not allow and do not promote the same close knit community. In the current game enviroment it cannot ever exist as it used to. I believe this is exactly how Nevrax want it. The game was stagnated to an extent, we were all used to doing things the nice way and Nevrax were taking our subs but at the end of the day Nevrax were not growing as a business and they needed continued and above all they needed new subs to survive.

Just take a look at WoW (I never did), pure hatred exists and is part and parcel of every minutre of gameplay but they have xx milllion subscribers. Nevrax as a business want their slice. Sure they want to try and keep us all happy but at the end of the day they want new subs, a new player will probably play for 3 mths at least before they even start questioning content etc as it wont even enter their mind before they have at least maxed one skill.

The proven way to attract new players is conflict and it's working without a doubt. It will certainly be the death of Ryzom as we all know it but as a game, as a business it will grow with the continued trend. This has lead to many, many people leaving the game, people I have never actually met but who I would consider as good friends, good friends who played the game, the game we all fell in love with.

The problem for us old timers is whether or not we can adapt and join in or find some way to play the game as we used to. It's not easy, we are all used to "how it used to be", we all want it to be "how it used to be" but those days are long gone and will most likely never return.

So for those that stay we are left with what? We are left with conflict, we are left with resentment, we are left with disappointment. How do we relieve the above emotions, erm err well we resort to conflict........we fight on the forums, we fight in the game. They've sure got some clever peeps at Nevrax ;)
