It's been down for three or four days now. One of my most beloved sites, too :/

Erk, not good :( The entire DNS domain is either down, or has been removed - www.raum.com doesn't work either, and returns a DNS-related error rather than a webserver-delivered "page not found".

*did some digging on teh intahweb*

Domain Name: RAUM.COM
Registrar: SCHLUND+PARTNER AG
Whois Server: whois.schlund.info
Referral URL: http://registrar.schlund.info
Name Server: NS67.WORLDNIC.COM
Name Server: NS68.WORLDNIC.COM
Status: ACTIVE
Updated Date: 03-apr-2006
Creation Date: 07-jul-1996
Expiration Date: 06-jul-2008

It looks like they forgot to renew - the updated date is 2/3 days ago, so I imagine the DNS servers stopped forwarding traffic for the domain. If that happens, it's essentially like buying a new domain - you have to wait several days before the DNS re-activates over all DNS servers. It's quite possible some people can get to it already, but until your own ISP's DNS servers reflect the re-activation, you'll get the same errors.

Fear not, based on the updated date above I think it's on it's way back to you right now :)

hmm 3 days+ seems an awfully long time for DNS updates in my personal experience. The longest time you should have to wait is 48 hours and it normally doesn't even take that... Around 12hrs more often than not. :(

Hope it comes back, would miss it.

Indeed it should be quicker Jayce, but it could indicate a problem with the WORLDNIC DNS servers shown in the WHOIS info :) Sadly we won't know for sure, unless it comes back on - the server providing raum.com could well have been taken down completely, or if it's being hosted by another ISP (other than the one who registered the domain), their own DNS servers could be causing the invisibility problem, and they don't know about it yet.

Tis a waiting game, unfortunately - unless someone knows how to contact the owners of the site directly (other than with the raum.com domain, and subsequently any email addresses ending in @raum.com :) )

72+ is what it always took for years, but now thanks to ISPs caching a lot less, and honoring reaonsable TTL records, 12 hours is more normal.

If they moved to a new provider or there is some problem with delegation (the step where your name servers's IP#s are made known by the registrar), then 72 hours isn't uncommon again. If you're using some known nameserver that the root servers have known about for ages, then it's usually < 12 hours before some folks start finding you again. really depends what your NS is, running my own, I've had varying success depending on the registrar involved, there IS a difference between the $5 a year domain name and the $25 one ;) .

I don't think this registrar is too clueful:
C:\Documents and Settings\pat.DANGERMOUSE>nslookup
Default Server: nsc2.nr.wp.shawcable.net
Address: 64.59.176.15

> server ns67.worldnic.com
Default Server: ns67.worldnic.com
Address: 205.178.190.34

Server: ns67.worldnic.com
Address: 205.178.190.34

Name: http://www.raum.com
Served by:
- G.ROOT-SERVERS.NET
Which says to me the registrar or the domain owner hasn't setup anything correctly (this name doesn't resolve to an IP on its nameserver).. yet.

The authoritative servers are the ns67.worldnic and the other ones, they seem not to know about this domain yet.

Aha, nice work there :) My nslookup @ work seems to be broken - probably due to our bizarre routing setups (thank god I don't touch those).

I guess then, the owner could actually have moved the domain recently (3rd of this month), and the registrar/ISP has made a complete mess of setting up the DNS for the transfer? :) Heh, there are quite a few reasons not to choose the cheapest deal, and this is the most annoying :)

Hopefully the owner is sorting this out now, or moving the domain again :)
