Translated from French board: news from Nevrax

Post by Marjo »

Today we had a meeting at the French court regarding our observation period. Below is a translation of the post I made on the French board, announcing the result of that meeting.
Marjo on the French board wrote: There is good news from the meeting today.
As the improvements we are working on together with the Ring expansion put the outlook for the game in a positive light; the shareholders have decided to support us even more, and to extend the observation period to 6 months instead of the normal 4 months.

Excellent news Marjo, and congratulations to Nevrax :) Did the shareholders get to alpha test R2 then? :D hehe

See, everyone on IGN was wrong about calling SoR the next AC2... I guess most gamers never studied economics, let alone realize AC2 had a different economy to tackle by comparison. oO;

Nope sounds like a new 6 month period instead of the usual additional 4 months. So 6 months from now I guess :)

Great news! :)

Excellent news :)

A few questions tho, did you mean another additional 6 months (so october) or 2 extra months to this 4 month period (in june)?. I hope you meant October, giving plenty of time for a succesful Ring release...

That said... If I am not mistaken, this will be the 4th observation period for Nevrax, and according to other posts, can this one be the last one, with the ultimate goal of "breaking even" thus avoiding liquidation, or can several observation periods be concatenated as long as there is a possibility of recovering from financial losses?

I don't pretend to know the variable and fixed costs of operating the service -- specially after the number of developpers and support costs have been reduced -- but, unless there are other incomes (like NeL engine support contracts), is the current rate of new players enough to sustain the cost of Ryzom? there are new players daily, but one may guess that the number of active subscriptions should be way higher than it is now. Are there other plans as a new Asian market / server, selling Ryzom to other companys, or is everything ultimately based on the Ring expansion?

You know Ani, that could be a very good idea :) Ryzom has a huge level cap, and particularly in Korea they are used to 'grinding' in their own MMOs. I think Ryzom could have a lot of potential over there. I've recently tried RF Online, and although I didn't stay, I learned a fair bit about the game - and also some insight into L2 and FFXI from various comments (the ones I thought were genuine...). What an interesting idea that could be :)
