WEll, as in almost every other MMORPG, the arcane path is a long and difficult one, but extremely rewarding as well. Being a mage, ive had to endure fearing the event of a mob actually getting to me because i would be critically hit every time while im casting. Now that i am at a relatively high level, i find that killing mobs way above my level has become no less unlikely but possible, something a meleer could not possibly do alone at my level or 10 levels above mine. For example, i was able to bring a vicious arana(big desrt thingy with 425 crit damage) down to 1/2 of its hp before it got to me, of course when it did.... I would never have thought i would be able to do that at my level.
Point being, although i would like magic to be 'tuned ' in the next patch, it truly doesnt need it'
and people please be magi, there is probably 1(decent) mage/5 meleers in fyros.
its not a good ratio
Magic, as always is too powerful :(
Re: Magic, as always is too powerful :(
Well that's the point of magic... doing huge damage in short spans of time before the creature gets to u I'm still on a noob island and i'm a ranged fighter (lev20) so far i think that unique point of the gameplay is to find the balance between all 4 development routes. For example as a ranged fighter i have to make my own guns/ammo (currently takes all my points for crafting) and i use magic to blind and stun which gives awesome results, don't know how it will be in the future. Mainland sounds scary U can't force ppl into being something they don't really want. The good point about the game is that it offers good opportunities for whatever way u choose.
P.S. I tried being a magician, it rocks but I always favoured guns, even though ammo is a pain in the arse to make in Ryzom

Re: Magic, as always is too powerful :(
The problem is "of course when it did....".
Mages CAN kill stronger mobs than fighters, but if they are unlucky (aka suffer a few resists or spell failures in critical spells) they are dead. Is a fighter getting killed because he misses a few times in a row?
Mages are more gain - more risk, while fighters are less gain - less risk.
/edit: the spelling, oh the spelling...

Re: Magic, as always is too powerful :(
I would agree in part but not in Whole.
I find playing a Magi about the same as most other games. We can do lots of damage which is our role as it is in most online games and we can solo quite well but you are correct, if we get hit 9/10 we are dead.
Perfect, it stops us poor Magi's from attacking something far too high for us and at the same time gives us the ability to solo if we have to.
I agree I dont think anything needs "Tuning" with the Magi apart from the Stanza costs which where mentioned in the patch notes.
Pcheez You have to take into account that some magi's wont be able to buy the nice 97/97 staffs and the nice armour so think of them. Think of the poor magi who doesnt have the advantage of being where we are.
You know god kills a bunny every time a GM nerfs a Magi.

Re: Magic, as always is too powerful :(
I think that mages and fighers are now better balanced then during beta. The point shrike makes is absolutely true.
The problem right now is not mages and fighers but RANGED fighters. I haven't seen any good ranged fighters yet, all because it is too hard (and expensive) to level when you compare it mages/fighters.

Bah Mages are girls
Im at lvl 75 and with my nice new Pike i can hit for 410 per hit with Inc Dmg 5, i hit 30 times a minute, stamina is negligible.
Plus get a tank with Circular attack and Inc Dmg and you can take on 4 or 5 at once
Im also a lvl 50 Off mage/35 Def mage, and so far am less than impressed, unless of course i suck as a mage which is very liekly

I agree i'm not sure why they're changing it. Works fine as it is. Once you get past level 30 you start wondering what to buy next (prehaps a new spell type?). So reducing the SP need seems a but unneeded.pcheez wrote:WEll, as in almost every other MMORPG, the arcane path is a long and difficult one, but extremely rewarding as well.

Re: Magic, as always is too powerful :(
Range has a nice tactical advantage over melee... Magic is ranged, and costs no ammo and its also pretty versatile. Damage aint everything.
Too bad the spell choice is rather limited in Ryzom, but the available ones are useful and well done.
