Seeking answers about Fame/Faction/Neutrality

Post by kovah »

Greetings Homins!

I have yet to choose a side in this battle though I do lean slightly in one direction over the other. My seeking has brought up some questions that I cannot seem to find answers to.

/ooc
I've searched the forums a good bit but I'm sure I missed what I'm seeking, if so I apologize

I understand why you would want to be neutral and that should be completely up to any Homin to decide for themselves but I don't understand how those who make that choice have been worked into the two factions.

Why are those who choose to be neutral allowed to use any Karavan or Kami teleport?
Why are those who choose to be neutral resurrected by the Karavan or Kami?

If these factional benefits provided by the Karavan and Kami were removed would anyone still choose neutral?

/ooc
If this has just been worked in to allow people to have choice considering gameplay then fine, but it seems to me to that anyone who would want to be truly neutral wouldn't want the benefits provided by the two factions that they do not want to be a part of. Could I then say that anyone who chooses Neutral isn't really into the RP aspect of this game or are they just looking to have their cake and eat it too?

First a clarification on your first question: Neutrals are allowed to use some, but not all of the TP's. They get about 1 per region (some Kami, some Kara) but none in the 250 zones or Prime Roots. Those are exclusive rewards for picking a side.

IC: I suspect the Kami and Karavan do this to show that they aren't all bad. i.e. to show the benefits of joining. A truly dead homin that might have become a factional homin in the future is a lost opportunity. So, you get rezzed in the hopes you will eventually see the light. You get access to some TP's for the same reason.

OOC: It's really about not totally killing the game experience for those that haven't gotten for enough along to choose side or those that don't want to.

The Kami and the Karavan allow restricted teleport services to those homins who have not sided with a faction. For those who choose to devoutly follow their faction access to the prime roots and the most dangerous above level regions is granted.

Often early in a homins life they may not be ready to commit to a faction, or want to explore the options available, this is understood and the limited access is given to show the benefits that full support will give.

can of worms!! big scary can of worms!!

I'll offer my thoughts, and stay unconcerned about being flamed -) the faction war that is brewing has only recently started having ingame consequences, all of atys was a peaceful place for a long time, with homins fighting and teaming side by side.

With the introduction of the new fame and tp system imo the dev's were expecting the majority to pick a side and embrace their faction. Sadly so many had got stuck in the mindset of peace and equality and kicked up a bit of a fuss so options for neutrality have been forced into this mix. I understand people wanted to stay neutral, but if you read some of the long and generally locked posts about this many want all the advantages that factioned players want as well.. its a bit of an ugly situation, and yes there is certainly a lot of cake wanting to be eaten ;)

Yeah, I almost edited my post to make that change. Yeah, thats what I figured.

My thanks for your response. You have answered my questions.

For now, this Homin will continue to enjoy being resurrected by either faction as it seems I have little choice in the matter but my two feet work just fine to get me where I need to go. Until I am able to make a decision as to which of the greater powers on Atys I should follow I will be wearing out many low quality boots.

[edit]Ahh, thanks to you as well Rushin. I would comment further on your comments but I think you have said enough and my purpose was not to create any arguements, just seeking information. *nod* *nod* *wink* *wink* *cackle*

Q/ Why are those who choose to be neutral allowed to use any Karavan or Kami teleport?

Because they pay for the Ticket , howerver some TP's in the lower Regions are denied and all of those in the highest Regions and Roots -clearly a mechanism employed by both the Karavan and the Kami to entice Homins to join their side/cause

Q/ Why are those who choose to be neutral resurrected by the Karavan or Kami?

I believe Resurection was promised to Homins by both powers after the Great Swarming ? and there are no True Neutrals anyway every Homin has some Fame from birth [new characters start with +20 now I think] with one Cult or the other , Neutral only means they are not directly involved in the Homin v Homin conflict that is sponcered by the higher powers for their own ends

Q/ Why are those who choose to be neutral allowed to use any Karavan or Kami teleport?

A homin teleports and the two Kami guardians look at each other. One of them asks the other, "Was she really a Kamist?"

Other Kami guardian answers, "Don't ask me! They all look alike."

I do have to say I seriously disagree with this. For many of us Neutrality is a major choice that we have thought long and hard about.

The Samsara wish to be able to jobs for anyone who is willing and able to pay the right price. If we picked a faction we would lose a big chunk of our potential market.

Plus many of us have seen the horrors of Faction vs Faction conflict and have no wish to follow any god that encourages and rewards the slaying of fellow homins as an act of faith (see Ep 2 honour points for killing).

Frankly we would rather not rely on either faction, as such we are happy to _pay_ for our teleport tickets, accept the death penalties levied for resurrection (when it is entirely possible to avoid such, since there have been no DP events and zones). Plus many of us backed the Guild of Elias' mission to the Deep Roots in an attempt to encourage the third option.

We dont get PR TPs, we dont get purple zone TPs, we miss out on PvP tags, future Rites and Honour Point rewards... which bit of the cake are we getting again? The smaller scraps thrown us in attempt to get us to convert so far...

This is my choice, and I stand by it not as apathy, or as an act of greed, but a choice for my character based on his past, the choices of his friends and the things he has seen.

I hope this doesn't come across as a flame, it's not intended as such, but as an explanation of what neutrality means to my character in this context.

Far from it...neutrals tend to be more into actual day-to-day ingame, in-character RP than cultists. Three of the four highest-RP guilds (that I know of) are neutral.

Most factioned guilds only RP to the extent of doing the cult-alignment rites, killing guards at the opposite faction's temple to gather teh uber fame, attending events and OP battles to nuke the other side and toss a few insults, and some turn on their FvF tag. But that is not roleplay, because real roleplay requires imagination. Less strict definitions of RP seem to imply that you are RPing when you play Monopoly, just because you're playing as an avatar (whether that be a little plastic gamepiece or a 3D character in a video game).

</rantOff> Ehr...I digress.

@Riveit: LOL :p

Anyway, Nevrax is pretty much not allowed to remove any more tp/respawn-related abilities...there was an outcry when they reduced tp access to what it is now, and any further reduction would cause players to go to Paris and beat the devs.
